Sidekick 2008/Gekko Coming July 30th
Posted by Brian Lam at 10:52 AM on July 17, 2008
Boy Genius has word that T-Mobile's Sidekick 2008 is coming out on July 30th. The phone has Sidekick like features, and a 2.6-inch WQVGA screen, A2DP stereo bluetooth streaming and those interchangeable faceplates we've been hearing about. The phone's OS should feel appropriately aged but at the right price, the Sidekick's always been a crowd pleaser. I'm just not sure if that crowd is this crowd. [Boy Genius]

YES! i absolutely love hiptops/sidekicks! But when does the "Gekko 2008" come out in Aus? I would definitely buy it and im sure many others would too. June 30th definitely wasnt the australian realease date, which is a shame. Cant Wait. =]

Watch out Boost Mobile! I think Mr. Tmobile is trying to take back some of your demographic!

@BloggyMcBlogBlog: It really is but if they're unleashing it in October like giz had in another thread then they should really be thinking about a 3G sidekick soon. And why dont they make a touch screen sidekick, with better features and more functionality because the Sidekick OS is way too limited.

@pdditty: T-Mobile's 3G is virtually non-existent. Maybe next model.

Funny, many Deaf who were big SuckKick fans have switched to Sprint using BlackBerry Curves in the past 6 months. Seems T-Blo is a little late in the game. Or is it Microsoft who is late? Hell... never cared for the SuckKick and never will.

The type of people who buy sidekicks are the type of people who have two phones- one for talking and one for talking AND texting. Usually I see these people, completely lacking in self-awareness, rattling off texts non-stop through a college lecture class, never bothering to ever look up from what they're doing.
The Sidekick is big, so other people can see that you are texting your "bffffs". AND that you have a social life. Because, God forbid, people might think that you don't have friends if you aren't in constant contact with them. And we can't have that, can we? So, screw the rest of the world; you're going to have a 90-minute text conversation about the fake Coach bag you just bought and the random hook-up you fell in love with who never wants to talk to you again because he realizes you have the clap.
I hate you, T-Mobile.

its called a sidekick, "2008/gekko" isn't necessary, in fact, it might offend 12 year old everywhere, better take that down

You need to look at the phone for what it is and NOT For What It Is Not! It is a great connectivity tool to keep in touch with friends, family and the outside world for the Hearing Impaired! For those of you who were born perfect you may take some things for granted, like say, Easily hearing what is going on around you! Yes, I Know the Hip Hop Crowd and Socially Excelling Debs have taken a liking to the Sidekick platform. But the phone is what it is and keeps me in contact with those near / far away from me! T-Mob gives me a great deal with the family plan, Unlimited data, txt, push mail and 3 IM clients to choose from. All for under $80 month on 2 Sidekick LXs (Again, T-Mob hooks up the hearing impaired). This is a deal that bests Sprints newly departed SERO Plans, How? Because I gave Sprint a try out on the SERO Plan and even though the price was ridiculously low. The network didn't always work and when billing was incorrect dealing with customer service was an exercise in futility. Even though T-Mob has no 3G, the network just works when you need it to with less dropped (At least in the Western United States) calls over Sprint. I'll take T-Mobs customer service over Sprints customer service any day. So switching Back to T-Mob from Sprint was like going back to that fat, homely sure thing to tide you over until that next hot bitch that comes along who energizer bunny like keeps going like Tera Patrick on Ecstasy. But in the end will leave you leave broke, disappointed and drinking like an extra in "Beerfest!" The sidekick is a solid, proven platform with a snappy OS whose physical dimensions the 'Other' phone(s) are near identical in size! SO quit with all the Jibba Jabba Suckas,,,

@Joetimek: Now hold on here...I had sidekicks since the 3, and I too, find it stupid to have two phones. I get what you are saying as I've seen people do that before and one of the phones is a Sidekick. But not everyone fits into the stereotypical Sidekick user.

@raven1: i got the impression from your never-ending rambling block of text that you enjoy using the Sidekick because you are not able to hear?
...and that you frequently rely on the written word to communicate?
i generally notice that the more i use something (especially if it something that is *required*) the better i get at it.
soooo... what happened?

I own an lx and it's definitely come in handy for me. Web, emails, notes, impromptu photos of hot nurses asses, yada yada.
just one thing i hate about it. when people see me on it they like to say "Hey, my 13 year old daughter has that same phone!"

I know everyone here's dick is still red from all the beating off they've been doing over the iphone, but the sidekick is a solid communication device.

Just when I thought T-mobile had no innovation left in them, the go and do something amazing like this!
Thank you T-Mobile! I've been waiting for yet another update to my Sidekick. It has so much more side kicking awesomeness than the other 15 models.
Seriously though, it's actually getting embarrasing. I might have stayed with them instead of going to at&t if they would come out with some better phones. Oh, and actually rolled out the 3G that they've been promising for who knows how long.

Yep, my hearing sux, and like you I have learned to adapt and have gotten very proficient at using the "devices" around me.
Hearing loss is from exposure excessive noise and pressure (former Military) I frequently had to deal with in a former "job."
