Samsung's i8510 Boasts Almost Everything, Plus An 8 Megapixel Camera
Posted by Matt Hickey at 12:00 PM on July 24, 2008
Samsung has a new slider on the market in Europe and we're hoping it finds its way over here. The i8510 is a S60-powered GSM phone with very fast 3G speeds and Wi-Fi, as well as GPS. What makes this high-end phone lust-worthy, though, is the 8 Megapixel multifunction camera with Xenon flash that can record video at up to 120 frames per second. It also has image stabilisation and face recognition as well as other features. Couple that with Bluetooth 2 and 16GB of internal flash storage and you've got a serious, slim phone for T-Mobile users. And it looks really nice, too. [Symbian Guru]

@Nintenboy01: That is not always the case. Megapixels don't always mean better quality.

@Carmen-I'M NOT ASIAN!: It's not just for a larger print. Even regular-sized pictures will look a lot cleaner and sharper the higher the pixel count.

I swear, are companies this stupid? CELL PHONE CAMERAS HAVE NO BUSINESS having an 8 megapixel camera. Most they need is 2 hell perhaps 3 at most. I highly doubt you are going to print out the pictures that large to need 8 megapixels. Anyone who guys this phone and goes nuts about it b.c of the camera feature is nuts!

How's about a full slide out querty keyboard?... When will Samsung and Nokia figure out that multi-media users that buy these types of phone would also like to edit a word document too, or write an email? Seriously, anyone?....

@CutePuppyz: I have the N95 and to me it is already outdated and dead with Nokia releasing the N96.

I'd have to see the UI before I trade in my iphone, assuming the price isn't ridiculous but I bet that's out of the question.

I gave my iphone to my gfd and got the Samsung D880 dual sim phone. Both sim cards are different networks and simultaneously online. Recently I got a new job and am therefore forced to carry a business phone. Please samsung, or apple or nokia, make a dual sim smartphone.

@ProSeven: And to you- Samsung and LG make quite a few dual-SIM phones that apparently only get released in China. Maybe take a look there...?

@Carmen-I'M NOT ASIAN!: True- past about 5MP I believe that more MP only means more noise because the pixels get smaller. It's time to start getting quality optics- like how SE uses Zeiss lenses and Samsung (usually) uses Schneider-Kreuznach (did I spell that right?).

nice!
I was looking for a replacement for my older samsung slider, and this seems to be worthy, feature-wise.
120fps video sounds good, but I wonder how good the quality on that really is.

@Carmen turns 19 in 5 days!!!: Maybe it's just me, but the camera on this looks less like a high-end cell phone camera and more like an actual camera that is attached to a phone. However, I'm waiting for the Sony Ericsson C905 to do that...

OK, so maybe 8 MP's on a camera phone is overkill. But then where are all the 5 MP camera phones? The best Verizon offers in a 3 MP. All I want is to be able to take a nice pic and make a call. I could care less about surfing Facebook on the damn thing. I carry my phone everywhere, not so much with my digital camera. What I want is a nice 6 or 7 MP camera with phone functionality. And maybe an MP3 player. And while we're at it, a pico projector to show off all my great pics with. And maybe have it transform into a beer fetching robot... Is this too much to ask? Maybe...

@bobx3: The vast majority of people in the US have subsidized phones...and most mobile users in the US aren't high end phone owners...
People in Asia and Europe, no matter how poor you are are just more phone savvy than we are...sadly.

Bleh, specs are awesome but not having US 3G is a huge turn-off. It would also be nice to see T-Mo coerce some hardware manufacturers to release some decent phones that work with the AWS (1700/2100) band they have.
