Rind Disposable Earplugs Are the Perfect Wallet-Sized Ear Protection
Posted by Jack Loftus at 4:00 AM on July 21, 2008
Next time you're headed to a rave and want some additional protection when things start to heat up, consider throwing a pair of these Rind disposable earplugs alongside that other well-known wallet-based protection. And because these plugs lie flat like a credit card when not in use, there will be no embarrassing ring-shaped mark pushing its way through the leather when it comes time to pay for drinks at the bar. When you're done, the plugs collapse and store back in the card, and remain effective for "several months" (instructions below). Try doing that with used latex!

the standard cylinder shaped disposable ear plugs i have at work can be smashed flat and put in my wallet without being noticeable. i used to keep a pair in my wallet just in case i lost my nice pair for riding my motorcycle.

I think rendered images are best used to show off design elements, not functional advances. The "wow factor" of this product is a functional advance (the compressing of a working earplug into the thickness of a credit card). The design is kinda lame (tabs sticking out of your ears, bulky "card" that could be smaller, etc...).
In other news, a earplug keychain fob is an idea that works with today's earplug tech.

Eh. That's what tissue is for.

Meh. My Etymotics earplugs will last for a lot longer than these things and have a carrying case that fits neatly in a pocket.

I just put my ear plugs in the change pocket in my jeans. *Shrug*
Not embarrassed to have them, sometimes you just want some peace and quiet.

So wait, latex can't be reused? Don't I feel silly, I've been washing them out and reusing them for years...
That must be why I keep getting served in paternity suits...

@infmom: I think the idea is that you always have earplugs with you in case you unexpectedly find yourself at a Cramps show. They are for when you didn't plan ahead enough to bring earplugs, or for those of us who don't always carry a pocket full of Etymotics.

@infmom: Yea, I love mine. I have several pairs stashed around my world.
Get etonic (flat frequency response) ear plugs.
Protect your ears.
You only get one set.

@rainsfather: That's an old Triumph Speed Four, no? You wear earplugs on that? Maybe your helmet is making too much wind noise. Maybe you are going reaaaaly fast.

@infmom: Don't get me wrong, I'm all for earplugs. I just don't plan ahead and never think to stick wadded up toilet paper in my ears. Sorry to hear about your hyperacusis. I had to look that up. 86% also have tinnitus too. That can't be fun.

@The Lab: Since I have hyperacusis, I don't go anywhere much without my earplugs.
Don't want to end up like my dad, whose idea of a hearing aid was to cup a hand behind an ear and ask you to repeat everything, louder.

Those look really painful. Sharp metal corners and seams where the "seals" got smushed flat for extended periods of time. No thanks. As others have pointed out, regular ol' earplugs fit just fine in any pocket you've got. And if you don't have 'em when you suddenly find yourself watching musical tesla coils, a wadded-up napkin or tissue will do just fine.

@The Lab: it was a S4. the silencer i put on it was "tunable" so i "tuned" it by completely removing the insides, then had the computer really tuned for it and the better quality air filter. It was crazy loud at full throttle around 110mph. but alas, when i bought my new mustang it was sold so i could mod the mustang. hopefully wont need ear plugs for the mustang for at least two more seasons of scca, that and i could just put a box of plugs in the trunk.

i heart earplugs...i really do...dont go to rave style clubs without them. Otherwise (providing that you visit them often) you'll wind up losing hearing.
on a related note...weirdest thing i've discovered about people who have lost hearing from going to those things...they dont seem to realize that they have lost hearing.

Not a bad idea. Not that I bother with raves and such, but for those who do, the convenience of this makes it more likely it'll be used. Personally, if I think I'm going to be involved in something possibly requiring earplugs, I just put a packet of the disposable foam plugs in my pocket. (This does come up on occassion, so I keep a couple packets in my truck, on my motorcycle, in the go-bag, and at the office.)
Now, what to do about those giant Russian lasers....

I have to stop reading Yanko. It just disappoints me when these things never get made.
