Race Car Chairs Give You Office Pole Position
Posted by Jesus Diaz at 11:15 PM on July 29, 2008
If you feel like you need an extra boost for your office chair races and/or ego, be prepared to pay up as much as US$15,000 for one of these RaceChairs, featuring original seats from Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati cars. Leather, carbon fibre, aluminium, every single element except a cup holder? For shame. Ray Wert demands his Ford Taurus office chair now!

@VideoVampire: Didn't you know you could have ripped people off like no one's business?
[www.porsche.com] also over-priced.
I'm sure it's the branding and licensing that make these so expensive. I can't imagine an individual car seat being 10-15% of the price of a whole car. Even in a Lamborghini, with all of its sexy hand assembled goodness -wait, yeah, I could see that being super expensive.
At the same time, Anomynoose, unfortunately 15k wouldn't get anyone near a car where the price of admission can sometimes be already owning a vehicle from that particular dealer. Pretty sick. But yeah, you could get started on a nice VW or Subaru for that much and not feel like a super rich douche.
That said, I'd murder for an office chair made from a Bentley driver's seat.

Well, I thought, I can't afford the car, but maybe the chair would be nice. Good neck-support etc.. ANd then the price-tag!!! Ouch!

We need more chairs with neck support. It's next to impossible to find any chairs that are built for tall people with neck support.

I have a MOMO Corse racing seat that's just been sitting(no pun) in my room for months now. I've been wanting to make it into a desk chair, but I need someone with welding skills!

My Mustang had a good seat, I could stand all day in that I think. My Jeep though, OMG, its against the Geneva Convention to force somsone to sit in it for more than a couple of hours.

"What does that say about me, I wonder."
It says you might have a parapsychic gift.
Perhaps your clairvoyance allows you to see the kind of charcters who will be sitting in those seats in the near future.

@unspellable: Uhhh...are you forgetting the Corvette, Viper and Ford GT?? I agree with you that most of them are bad...but..there are some that stand out (even to European eyes).
And I want a Mercedes S600 seat!!

Perfect, now I won't look as dorky when I make the vrummm noise everywhere I go. And people laughed when I got an airbag installed in my monitor. Who's laughing now?

@Secret Agent Man: You do NOT want to get into it with me. Give me a flattened Fresca can, a linoleum floor and a pushbroom and I will SKOOL your sorry ass.
@Wireless Joe: You are a deeply disturbed individual. Seek professional help.

Maybe it's too early in the morning and my vision's still too blurry for lack of coffee, but does anyone else see a gallery of phalluses? What does that say about me, I wonder.

Well Sign me up for the special Olympics, because I'm pretty sure I just found what I'm buying myself for my birthday. BTW, most of them aren't 15,000. The one I have my eye on is "only" $4,500.

I made one like these kind from a wrecked Camaro seat for the "proper" postion during Gran Turismo marathons. Also I made one for a friend out of a BMW Z3 seat, much cheaper than these rip-off artists want. Got the seats for free both times and got the bases for free I only had to buy the hardware.

$15,000? ROFLMAO! If you buy one of those you are RETARDED. There are a lot better options out there for less than $500.

It seems the most comfortable chairs I've ever owned were in cars.
The auto manufacturers, with the exception of ALL of the American ones, should have been marketing these things years ago.

so some of these here chairs cost more than actual cars? they probably have more horsepower than a kia anyway, so i guess it makes sense.

I got my Recaro office chair in 1983 for under $200. J.C. Whitney sells a knock-off for around a $100.

Does anyone have a Recaro office chair and is it worth the money?
Stay away from the Herman Miller Aeron, its terrible!

My dad made me one of these maybe 10 years ago. It was terrible because car seats are made for inclined seating position, as opposed to office task chairs. They are however more suitable as stationary sofa replacements but I would definitely not use them as task chairs. You might as well stick with Herman Miller, Steelcase, and likes for the fraction of cost but are much more practical and ergonomic.

@skm: After fifteen years, I'd say my Recaro was well worth the two bills I paid for it. Would I spend the two grand+ for a new one ? No. I've seen used ones on-line for as little as fifty bucks. If your into DIY check out [forum.e46fanatics.com]

How hard could it be to make your own? Actual race seats are cheap comparatively. I think I'd go the salvage yard route though and find a tan bucket out of a 2nd gen F-body. It wouldn't be too hard to mount to the bottom part of a larger rolling chair.

The most comfortable chair I own is in my car. I am considering buying one from a wrecker and mounting it on wheels for home use.
