Panasonic's Pivoting HDMI Cables Flex 180 Degrees For Tricky HDTV Wall Mounts
Posted by John Mahoney at 1:45 AM on July 17, 2008
If you're wall-mounting your TV in tight quarters and don't have a free side or downward-facing HDMI input on your set, these Panasonic HDMI cables will probably come in handy, once they're released this August. No word yet on price; Panasonic's standard 5ft cables go for around US$30 on Amazon (and we all know you can do a lot better than that). You can bet these will be even more expensive. [Pocket Lint]

Pfffft, everyone knows HDMI cables aren't any good unless they cost over a hundred dollars.

You can get swiveling adapters for your existing cables too.

They can charge anything for HDMI. Don't get it. People for some mysterious reason, must think they SHOULD cost 40 bucks.

Who invented the HDMI connector?
Could any plugin be less secure?
It goes in then slips out faster than a virgin male.
Swivel is fine but we really need proper screwin HDMIs.

$4 adapter at MonoPrice does the same exact thing.

I was just thinking about this for the PS3 yesterday. When you have the the PS3 standing up the cables stick out the side. Why not have the power, HDMI AND the network cable do 180% bends? That way they do stick out so much when you're looking at it face on.

ANoel You are exactly right they should have screw in side posts like a dvi plug.

@davezatz: Because HDMI cables don't bend exactly right there where you plug them in.

My what a lovely, flexible point of failure you've created Panasonic! What a great way to make an HDMI cable cost even more, degrade in signal quality and be more apt to destroy itself! Yay.

It's good, but it has been done. Audioquest has a swiveling adapter.
I needed one of these to help hide the side input HDMI that I needed to use on my TV. I bought the Monoprice 90 degree adapter (or I think it was monoprice, I forget). Anyway thier adapter is a rigid 90. Unfortunately, the plug on my TV needs to be a 90 in the other directions.
I purchased the Audioquest swivel adapter for about $20 bucks. A little pricey but it doesn't pull out (like other HDMI plugs and adapters) and swivels.

Because cables don't bend?

You can buy a sturdy right angle adaptor at Monoprice for less than $5... and an HDMI cable for around $5.

If it is not on monoprice.com, you don't need it.

Just bend the metal a little bit on the female connector so it fits snug. That should take care of it.

OK. Technically this is 180 degrees but practically it is only 90 degrees in two different directions. Plain stupid.
