Optus iPhone Pricing Announced

With only 8 days to go before the iPhone 3G gets announced, Optus is the first Aussie Telco to release comprehensive information on their iPhone pricing plans.
If you head on over to their iPhone page. You’ll see a comprehensive breakdown of postpaid pricing data. The interesting thing is that the maximum amount of included data is 1GB. To be completely honest, this will be more than enough for most users, although we expect to hear a lot of grumbling from potential power users. The excess usage fee of 35 cents per MB does seem a bit steep.
There’s a huge range of pricing structures that we’ll go through in a bit more detail soon. In the meantime, head to Optus’ iPhone page for more.

This is awful. I am one of those “power users” and I WILL use more than 1Gb online. I am extremely unhappy that I cannot go over without being really stung. Optus! You are losing me and all my company phones, too. You needed to get some savvy marketing going on this – you could have been the best, but you’ve chosen to be “the rest”…
(Sigh) Telstra, offer me a 2 or 3 Gb plan and here I come.
Pretty much what I expected.. actually, slightly cheaper than expected..
Pity there’s no $30 Plan, (it’s a big jump between $20 and $50 plans) that’s what I’m on now and it’s about right for my usage.
Check out The Age or SMH.. they have direct links to the pricing pages..

Tells you everything, sadly the phone itself costs $19 at least a month on top of the plan itself…
Buried deep in the fine print is the cancellation costs. Read that part very very carefully before signing. It will cost you more than the cost of the iphone outright if you choose to cancel early.
for example:
If you are on an optus $59 cap plan over 24 months, and decide to cancel within the first 12 months, the cancellation fee is $840. $9 more and you could get a brand new 16gb iphone outright.
Seems ludicrous to me.

Hi guys,
I just got off the phone with Optus sale and was so mad !!!! I am in a contract with Optus for 24 months (12 months left) and paying $86 for call and the headset, not to say that I’ve been with them for 3 years.
The whole idea to call them at this stage is to make sure I had 1 Iphone to pick up at Optus shop which is close to my working place on the 11th without explaining the situation that I am in. And the Indian saleman told me “U will have to terminate our current contract and pay the cancellation fee – $550 and sign up a new plan to get IPHONE” even I tried to tell him that i’ve been paying bills ontime, loyal to Optus for that long and willing to extend my contract to 2 more years.
Well, OPTUS + APPLE = F&(*^*Heads, i will never sign anything with Optus again!!
ok this may sound really dumb…
if you buy the 16G for $849 and then pay another $80 to get it unlocked…do you just then put you other sim card in (my three sim) and then just keep going on the plan im on with three but using the iphone?
sorry for the stupid question, dont really understand what they mean by ‘unlock’ and what the does.
