It's strange, ever since I decided to get the iPhone on Friday my current cell phone has been getting worse and worse every day! It stopped notifying me about voicemail messages last week and now the speaker is going bad. I wish it wasn't taking my decision so personally!

@mykalt45: You must buy a contract with your iphone 3g purchase. Also, for your contract, it'll basically rip up the old one and just start a new one (2 years)from your date of purchase/activation.

I was going to get one, but Rogers is going to be royally screwing anyone who buys one in Canada, so I'll just get an iPod Touch instead, and keep my 30$/month plan with TELUS. I'm not particularly loyal to TELUS... I just want to tell any Rogers spies who might read this that I'm on the other team.

The 30/store doesn't matter about sales output does it? Meaning, a store in Bumblef*ck, PA will get 30 phones as well as a store in the suburb of Philly. IS that correct?

@Paradise: a friend that works at ATT told me that all ATT stores will have about 30 for release date. They'll then receive another shipment on friday to sell on Saturday. So.. chances are that unless your only option to buy is at the NYC Glass box, you will most definitely be able to get one this weekend.

AT&T WILL sell without a contract but the phone will cost $600/$700 respectively. Makes it seem a LOT more reasonable to just get an AT&T contract with the iPhone rather than paying the full amount.

@ttech10: yes it will be sold without contract, just not at launch. AT&T's official press release states "Coming soon, AT&T will offer a no-commitment option of $599 for 8GB and $699 for 16GB."

I'm trying to figure out if I can purchase an iPhone and just plug it into my existing family plan and just add the $30 for data that I'd need and still get the subsidized price after agreeing for 2 more years.

Two ATT reps, one in store and another on phone, have told me yes but I'm too weary of ATT to believe them.
