as a yank living here in Oz, I can tell ya’ll it ain’t just on the D700 that we get yanked around pricewise.. It is SOP (Standard Operating Procedure)here to screw the consumer and all companies do it and here in WA it is extremely bad.

Price gouging all over. That is why I now buy all my stuff from the US sites and refuse to support local dealers. Until the manufacturers get real, I will deal elsewhere.

Cmon Giz, how about putting the hard word on these guys to justify the price gouging. At least co-ordinate a submission by readers to the ACCC. They can't be allowed to set exorbitant prices and then complain about about parallel imports. All this does is screw the local retailers and consumers.

I should add the irony of the comment anti-spam words I had to type in, "revenue first"! Says it all really.

Got the same annoying problem here in the UK. $2999 US Dollars is £1506 UK Sterling and not £1999 which the D700 is going to sell for here.That £493 actually equates to a whopping AU$1023 difference. Think you are hard done to!

so true, this mathematical incompetence is across the range though, including software downloads, but that's another criminal-issue to discuss another day!

I've seen the D700 for $3600 @ digital camera warehouse, still too pricey tho :( might have to wait till the end of the year :)

US$2999 = AU$3123, not $3999, fools!
Whoever decided on this price is either mathematically incompetent, or a jerk, or a healthy combination of both.
