More Signs of New Apple Notebooks Surface

Macrumors has spotted a report of a large Apple-placed order for laptop PCBs--up 20% over the current quarter's intake--as well as a stock notification to Best Buy announcing sparse MacBook shipments over the next two weeks. On top of the MacBook Pro case spyshots from earlier this month and this week's launch of Centrino 2, I'd say it's a good bet that new Mac portables are in the pipe. [Macrumors]

@macFanboy: All this time I thought the Dell XPS One was a slot loader. Doesn't it have a BD drive option?

@nosauten: I second that but you have to get on Sony's azz to release a slot loading blue-ray drive. They've been the ones slow on the draw in this instance.

@sototallycarl: I'm looking at the specs of the MBP's and iMacs, and it's only the higher end version that are significantly more powerful than a Macbook Pro. The biggest difference is that the iMac has a big desktop hard drive in it, and anything under a top spec Macbook Pro only has the 5,400 RPM variety.

Yeah, they won't be releasing them during a promotion. Here's the thing, why would Apple do such a thing when they can release a new produce closer to Christmas, then crank prices? Smart move if I was Steve.
On another note, I don't expect it to be hitting until next year.

i'm guessing no, doesn't seem very apple-like. i'm in the market for a new notebook but i might wait till the new ones come out

Are you kidding me? You are comparing a desktop to a laptop? Clearly you are not an engineer. The fact that they can pack so much power into so little space is the impressive and also the expensive part. People make power+price for size trade offs all the time.

@friedgold: I'm gonna say no. Usually Apple do a fall refresh. The buy a mac with a laptop is their way of clearing out all the old iPods and Macs a the same time to make room for the next generation.

We just need to "out" more Apple laptop rumors so that everybody starts waiting for the new laptop... then Apple will realize that they better release the new laptop or else students will stop buying it.
