Meta: Artist Uses Old Macs as Canvases for Mac Fanboy Paintings
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 9:40 AM on July 9, 2008
Instead of turning it into a jukebox, a jack-o-lantern, or worse, a web server hosting your text-only fan site, why not ship that old Mac of yours out to Melbourne, Australia where painter and street artist Satta van Daal will slap on some fanboy-approved Apple imagery as part of his iPaint myMac series. I'm actually a little surprised it's taken this long for me to see a Mac with Jobs and Woz's bearded mugs on it. Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough. [Satta Van Daal via Team Teabag]

thanks for the post, plug and all the kind comments ... this is an ongoing project that will hopefully result in an expo with more than 50 painted Apple devices in about 2 years. I'm dreaming of taking it also overseas -- that is if I can secure some good partners/sponsors for the project/ Anyone with good connections to the Apple PR department around here?

Jobs + Woz = <3 It does the GLBT community proud. Very progressive stuff.

Yeah, very cool.
I like the trend toward art incorporated into shells generally. Nice counter to the current totally minimalist look (which, I must admit, is also a trend that I have liked.)

I want an Apple II with a depiction of The Oregon Trail. Be sure to include plenty of indians, dead oxen, broken limbs, and heavy on the cholera.

I love this kind of recycling. I feel old and nostalgic seeing these (sniff).

Shouldn't this fall under the "not apple" tag?

@Captain Bringdown: They've been supporting it for years. Even the Mac logo is two men kissing.
It's impressive to see such open support from a large corporation.

OK, I am a PC guy through and through, and no fan of typical "Mac style" BUT damn I like these! Original and great art.

I wonder if he will do newer macs. I'd love to have my pro turned into an awesome piece of art.

@Git Em SteveDave has a new Lego set: I think it's an pizza box LC. It's too thin to be a perfoma. I used to have a LCIII, and I'm sure this looks just like it, complete with the indentation running along the width of the from fascia.

As much as i love apple, i think its stupid to cover your classic mac with sticks like that. I really dont like the one picture of the ibook that has a decal on the screen, and the mac that has the face decal on it!

I'm going to have to go with deeply disturbing.
On so many levels.
But I guess it has it's fans. I would find it awesome to paint old consoles with characters/graphics from that console's defining games, so in a sense I can see the appeal.
But Apple? I just don't get it, I guess.

@Captain Bringdown: Not GLBT (though they are pretty open-minded/left-leaning as a company). The Apple logo color scheme was developed in the late 76, the GLBT flag was not first used until a gay pride parade in June 1978.

I'm actually kinda digging the orange Mac Classic there. Just throw a fish tank into it, and my work desk would be set. ;)
