Lips Karaoke Confirmed, Lets You Sing Any Song on Your Zune (or iPod!)
Posted by John Mahoney at 5:00 AM on July 15, 2008
Microsoft just confirmed that Lips is not just an awkward prerelease codename but the final title of the Xbox 360 karaoke game with motion-sensing, rhinestone-encrusted microphone we've been hearing about. Most interesting though is integration with your Zune or--gasp!--iPod for loading your own songs into the game. No more complaining that your local 'oke joint isn't indie enough for you. @Captain_Collide: Easy there, captain. It's just an different take on karaoke with some interesting tech involved... not saying that i really enjoy karaoke, but singing songs of my own choosing (that aren't on any other games or machines) could be pretty fun, especially in a social setting.

Sounds like this could either be way sick or way lame. Lets hope it can analyze songs from 'ya pod pretty well. That would be loads of drunken fun.

Karaoke? Meh... But you say it works with Zune or iPod? I might have to check this out.

People like some really gay games. I don't get what the big deal is about a karaoke game.

@Platypus Man: If so, I'm totally busting out some "Advent: One-Winged Angel" from The Black Mages. Now that is a song worth singing... if you can sing it...
To be fair, I like their version of "Dancing Mad" better, but, well, it's kinda hard to find video game music with words...

Can you import songs from, like, a USB drive? I'd imagine you could, but who really knows?

I've been waiting and waiting for a Rapping game. This might be it! Let me import any song, use a rhythm and word recognition system, let my friends rap backup and do switch ups, chorus, battles, etc. Throw in online for multiplayer rap battle extravaganzas and you have game I'll buy a system for.

@robotleawesome: Exactly. I can already "karaoke" my music collection by turning on a basic voice reducer and, y'know, singing.
I'd have to see how well this actually works at turning MP3s into gameplay before I'm going to get too excited.

It says good things about microsoft that they aren't strong-arming the player into only using music from a Zune or PC. Kudos to them for allowing music from an iPod.
