ven with the remote and the USB interface, this thing, like most iPod and iPhone accessories, costs about twice what it should.

Any device with speakers, an amp and a "line in" input can get sound out of an iPhone (or iPod). Those devices include certain boom boxes, some table-top radios, all PC or "multimedia" speakers, and your home stereo. You just need a cable and possibly an adapter. A trip to Radio Shack will set you up for $12.

True, that setup won't hold your i-whatever upright, and you can't sync directly or charge your device with that setup, but who cares? $12.

I have traveled with a good set of PC speakers (I like Cambridge Soundworks). Their sound is a million times better than you would get out of a tiny device like that JBL thing, and they cost about $50.
