Gyroxus Full-Motion Gaming Chair Leans Your Entire Body
Posted by Jason Chen at 5:20 AM on July 24, 2008
There are gaming chairs that have speakers and a subwoofer, which are nice and have been done to death, but Gyroxus' gaming chair is a GAMING CHAIR. It's akin to the types of rigs you see in arcades that jiggles you like crazy in sync with whatever racing, flying or shooting game you've just thrown four quarters into.
The Gyroxus costs US$479 and works with Xbox 360, Windows, PS3, PS2 and "Nintendo", but neither of the two ordering options list any Nintendo compatibility. If the video after the jump is correct, all it does is lean forward, back, left or right depending on which way you move the centre stick. Not only does this seem not all that comfortable, it'd be kind of a pain playing titles like Gears of War 2 on this thing. But racing games, on the other hand, could be phenomenal.

I would appear that he is controlling the chair movement by pushing on the large arm that extends from the chair, rather than it taking its signals from the joystick itself, kind of a poormans way of doing things but until we try it I guess we cant say much. I did think it strange they were trialing an FPS on the system rather than a racer. Perhaps if it was a wheelchair FPS it would be a different story.

Does anyone remember this type of chair for the NES or SNES a number of years ago??? I remember trying one at K-Mart or Wal-Mart when I was a kid, but can't find any evidence of it ANYWHERE! I've been looking for years!!

So this is perfect for driving and flight games but for some reason they are not selling it that way. Why would you need this for a FPS?
Why can't they have a version work on all the systems or at least sell a adapter?
It is pretty cheap though. Just a seat will cost you $200. I've looked into making one myself and it is not cheap to move in both axis's. The don't explain how it works either. Does it get data from the controller and pass through the controls or does it get info from the game itself? Does it use belts or gears?...

Yes I am pretty sure parking this thing in your living room is a sure fire way to never get laid ever again.

Man...Wasn't that force feedback vest on here a while back cheaper than this? With essentially the same functions? I mean, you're gonna look stupid either way, might as well do it the cheaper way, eh?

Gaming chairs are antipoon. stick to the couch it's more conducive to tang... not to mention the fact that no one wants to play any type of multiplayer against the guy who has the gaming chair in his house. pwn ur friends... buy a couch

It looks like it doesnt actually interact with the game but that the mount for the controller acts like one big joystick telling the chair how to move.

that seems pretty lame. When they mount an LCD on it and make it a whole 360 degree experience, then I'll buy it.

Where are the good ol' days where you just sat in your underwear infront of the television set with some snacks around you completely engulfed in the game. Your kids were running with knives, your wife/girlfriend was fucking your best friend on the couch behind you and your little girl suzy was giving hand jobs in the bathroom to the school boys but dammit you didn't need no chair to neglect your family!

They could sell this stuff like crazy if they weren't so ridiculous with the price. It's not that hard to make.

It looks like it is made out of hard plastic. I can't imagine it would be very comfortable to sit in. It does look great though and playing racing games in it would be amazing. I bet it is heavy as hell too.

Looks like crappy lawn furniture. At least you can run a hose down the back of the chair and wash your marathon feces off the seat.

Idea sounds interesting, the video not so much, and the chair rendering just looks awfully unconfortable.

did the chair just moved? or is it my eyes? the camera? the chair?

What's the point of this thing? It doesn't appear to control or recieve any feedback from the game. All the motion is a result of the guy moving the controller (attached to the stick) around.

Can this whole thing be a misunderstanding?
Isn't this guy using the chair as the left analog stick? He is pushing his body around to interact with the environment and not the other way round.
Hey, I just thought of a new accessory for the Wii: the wiiChair: You place a chair on the wiiboard and do exactly what is in this video.

@Aoi: Get a cushion.
Why on Earth would they demo with an adventure game. Demo this with a racing game or flight simulator. Idiots. And keep the camera still so we can see the movement in the chair. Amateurs.. I swear to God.
