Custom Journey MP3 Player Comes Loaded With Aging Rock
Posted by John Mahoney at 12:00 AM on July 26, 2008
Sure, you could buy the new (yeah, new) Journey album on CD. Even iTunes. Or you could buy it preloaded on this US$40 1GB flash player from ZVUE that looks like it may as well be made of black velvet. Tough call. [Product Page via Anything But iPod]

Since when is Journey "aging rock"? Journey is timeless!

@strider_mt2k: I certainly did not. I was one of those people who made fun of those who listened to Journey.

$40? Maybe if they included some Styx.

"Sure, you could buy the new (yeah, new) Journey album on CD. Even iTunes." -- Right about CD, but not about iTunes. The new album is a Wal-Mart exclusive.

I'm so torn on this I can bearly comment. One half of me wants this bad (The side playing Journey's greatest hits on my comp now) and the other side doesn't want to get labeled as a sappy uber-dork who still listens to journey.
It's like the serbs and croats are having their war inside my head. I can smell the brain cells cooking...

I heard that it comes with a logo-ed fabric panel you can sew into the back of your denim jacket as well.
Who didn't have at least a few Journey cassettes back then, am I right?

Hmmm... It seems as though this won't be met with open arms. But, hopefully the manufacturer won't stop believin'. I wonder if sales would increase if you could order it anyway you want it.

So can this MP3 player only play Journey music? I'd be okay with that.
I love the buttons too. You can only play/pause, press volume which probably only turns the volume up (there's no way to go down), and you can press M to either rate songs as magnificent or masterpieces.

So U2 was able to garner a limited edition iPod with the option to purchase a complete box set, and Journey only rates a 1 gigger with a new album? That's kind of sad.
If I actually bought this, I would probably copy the new album files to my hard drive (assuming I could) and rip a CD of the Greatest Hits to it. Now that I think about it, I wonder if the Journey box would fit at 192kbps?

@Rabid Penguin: I bought this player yesterday and it is AWESOME! To answer your question, you can put any songs that you want on the player, so long as it fits in the 1gb of space. Hell, you can even take off the journey songs on there and replace them with your own, but who would do that? Also, when i first bought this i was worried about the volume button. But, on the side of the player there is are up/down buttons for skip track and change volume
I'm not even that big of a Journey fan, but I couldn't resist from buying this player. It's so cheap for a sleek mp3 player, especially since i was planning to buy the new Journey cd anyway. I hope this company comes out with other band-specific media players, some other old bands like AC/Dc would be cool

@Rabid Penguin: Rabid Penguin, you are quite wrong. I just got the player, and I love it. It doesn't show in the pictures, but there are up/down buttons on the side of the player that are used to skip tracks adn change volume.
Trust me when i say this, this is a lot of bang for your buck. I really like Journey, but i'm not a diehard fan. However, i was intrigued by such a flashy and feature-packed mp3 player while i was in walmart. It's so cheap for what you get. I was even thinking about buying the new Journey album, but now I have a mp3 player AND the full cd for 40 bucks. Bravo Zvue!
