Busted iPod Modded Into a Mouse; Could Be So Much More

If your old iPod is suddenly about to become useless when you acquire an iPhone 3G, why not repurpose it as something else? One enterprising modder took an iPod that had been accidentally run over by a car (yeah, I hate it when that happens) and turned it into a fully-functioning mouse, with the buttons on the trackwheel all functioning as mouse buttons. Unfortunately, due to the car smashing the crap out of the screen, it just has a piece of paper that looks like an iPod screen in its place.
I'd love to see this taken to the next level, with the screen working as a secondary screen for the computer. Imagine, being able to see your RSS feeds or new emails on your iPod mouse and saving screen space. It would be cool-looking and impressive and make you king of the nerds. Get to it, modders. I demand satisfaction. [Craftster via Technabob]

How about instead the little screen shows finger porn for your hands? Or perhaps just rotates a slide show of images. I guess it'd be useful at work, you can have the bad stuff on the mouse screen and work on the normal screen. I can't see reading emails on it though, when I have a full size monitor in front of me. Yeah - modders - get to that.

While the screen idea is a good one, Adam, I think a better starting point would be to make this "mouse" wireless.

Cool Mod, but at a cap of 16GB on the iPhone I'm still keeping my old 5th Gen Ipod...32 GB iPhone and then maybe I'll consider modding it :)

What i think would really be an amazing mod would be the ipod still fully functional with an optical eye for the mouse and two discrete buttons up top so you could browse through pics, videos, music etc. on your ipod/mouse and still use the acutal thing as a fully functional mouse.

wait... so the palm of your hand does the clicking, or the cord goes towards the bottom?
cool idea... but not a fan. it'd have to be wireless for me to love it

@jopari: Of course, at that point, you're probably better off buying an iPod Touch, jailbreaking it, and installing Touchpad Pro & VNsea.

The click wheel for scrolling would be the first step. Then the screen thing sounds great but could look shity. If you have a vga cable coming out of your mouse :P
