Black OX Robot Is Big on the Bad, Small on the Big
Posted by Mark Wilson at 1:16 AM on July 10, 2008
We're not discriminant enough in our miniature robot collecting to fully appreciate this Black OX robot from the series Gigantor, but even at our half appreciation it's still pretty incredible. Featuring 22 joints, LEDs, gyro sensors and accelerometer, Black OX only stands 43cm tall, but he'll still manage to hold your eyes open while having his way with your wife/garbage disposal. The price is only US$7,450 to score one of 30 that will be produced. Hit the link to check out many videos capturing the robot in motion. [Vstone via Crunchgear]

It just seems like a wierd number to go with. I can understand keeping it limited, but wouldn't you think that they would go with something like 100? How do you land on 30 as a production cap?
@Amsterdaam: That would not surprise me in the least and would be quite awesome.
@lpranal: Ahh, you are correct, proving once again that all the wolrds questions can be answered by watching Saturday morning cartoons from the 80's and early 90s......

@Mr.SithNinja: Didn't you see that episode of ducktales where Flintheart glomgold bought up all of some no-name baseball cards to the point where none were on the market, and eureka, the cards were worth millions?

@Mr.SithNinja: So that you can make $223,500.00 and then release 30 more next year in platinum wearing clothing by Marc Ecko as an "Exclusive Ecko Edition" for $20,000 each.

@Mr.SithNinja: Because you can charge $7,450 for it then.

Why bother making them at all if you are only producing 30?

Yeah, I remember reading about this thing on the Giz way back in March. Nice to see that they have gone ahead and put a price on it and are accepting pre-orders. I just wish I had a spare eight grand lying around to spend on this bad boy. It looks like the coolest robot ever! I may be biased, though. I am a big Tetsujin 28 fan.

You'd think for $7,450 he would move a little faster...

DO WANT.
WON'T GET!
Big fan of Tetsujin 28 (A.K.A. Gigantor). I always like Black Ox because he's just so minimalist and plain... but still intimidating and cool looking at the same time.
Too bad my lotto ticket last night was a loser.

"Gigantooor, Gigantooorrrr. Gigaaaaantoooor! Gigantor's the the space age robot, he's at youuur command. Gigantor the space age robot the poooowwwweers iiiiinnnnn yoooouuuuuurrrrr hands!...."
Man I loved that show back in the day. I can still remember watching it the day they killed "Blue Jackal" (the american name for Black Ox)... My buddy and me, who were totally addicted to Gigantor, both almost died when we met up that day to talk about what happened in that days episode while waiting for the bus that morning to take us to school... Blue Jackal kicked ass! I so want, but not for $7,450.... I'm tipping some Diet Coke out for my hommie in the robot sky as I write this... sniff...

This is the second robot you've featured in as many months that pimp-rolls when it walks. We humans may just as well give up.

For 8 grand, my new robot butler better be able to get my beer to me before it gets cold.

I think I saw this here before. I've seen a video of it in action, it is pretty amazing.
