AT&T BlackBerry Bold Pushed Back to September(ish)
Posted by Adrian Covert at 10:21 AM on July 26, 2008
First it was July, then mid-August, but now BlackBerryNews is pegging the AT&T BB Bold with a launch date around September 1, contingent on how quick they can train personnel on the phone. The Bold was also supposed to release first on Rogers today, but that has been pushed back to July 29. [BlackBerryNews]

Make that at least October. I just got off the phone with AT&T. While they do not have a date, they did say it would not be within the next 30 days. They said this because they have not recieved the demo phones for employee training, which takes 30 days. The more I pine over this phone the more I dislike RIM and AT&T.

@G.Quagmire: Maybe RIM is trying to not pull an Apple by rushing out a product that isn't ready for primetime? By this I mean: When iPhone 1.0 came out last year, Apple pulled developers from OS 10.5 to work on the iPhone. What happened? Leopard was the buggiest, most un-polished release of OS X since 10.1. Recently, Apple tried to rush MobileMe and the App store out, and what happened? They've been plagued by bugs, incompatibility issues, and poor performance. With the BB Thunder soon to be released and the Blackberry OS being almost completely overhauled (nobody can argue how immense the difference between OS 4.4 and 4.5 is) over the last six months, it seems RIM would rather have decent products patiently released rather than having behind-the-scenes pandemonium that results in sloppy products hitting the stores.

Dammit. I want to buy an iPhone, but I want to wait until the Bold is about to come out, so if I hate the iPhone, (yes, I'm sure it's possible), then I'll still be within my 30 days to get the Bold.
I'm sick of waiting...

@slaughter33: He uses his cell phone for calling people, and e-mailing. The iPhone and BlackBerry Bold can do both. One of them doesn't keep getting delayed, and is already released.

Oh this is just bullshit. Massive amounts of bullshit. What the F is going on? Seriously, if one of you guys (Giz, BGR, whoever) can actually find out the real story about why this thing is being repeatedly delayed so many times, I'm sure a lot of us would really love to hear it. I have a badly aging smartphone that is in serious need of replacement & I was dead-set on the Bold. But with these mounting delays, I don't know if I can hold out. Which means I'm gonna end up with an iPhone, which I don't really want to do. I can't be the only one in this situation.

this is being sold through at&t right? i think blackberry could've sold a good number of phones had they launched it near the iphone date. seems like a lot of people were angry over the limited amount of iphones / long wait times for it and were jumping ship / staying with verizon, t-mobile, etc.
honestly had the bold been available july 11th, i probably would've bought it. but i have an iphone in my hands now, so too bad blackberry!

My dad wanted to upgrade from the Blackberry Pearl to the Blackberry Bold, and he was going to do it if it was released anytime soon, or even mid-August. But now, he is going to buy an iPhone.

I gave in and bought a Tilt this week. I been waiting for a phone to waste my upgraded on, and my current beater (a Sony Ericsson) had alcohol spilled on it...
WM rocks!! I like it a lot...with all the applications...
If the Bold was coming next month - I would've turn in my Tilt and buy it.

@bigb252:
If you like the Tilt, I'd wait for the Touch Pro instead of the Bold.

Or, he could reach into the future and just pluck a new device from the tree of forbidden gadgets that is backward compatible with a 3G network.

Maybe they will ship with real chrome and maybe real glass for the screen instead of cheap plastic?

@jcrockerman: It is too small, but fine for email. Im not about to browse on something that small though. iPhone is better for media which isnt a shock, but its communications features lack.

@MuffinFlavored: It sounds like he already has a phone that does that, so waiting a month shouldn't kill him. Or he could get a curve which it a very capable phone for his needs.
