Apple's Website Shows iPhone Stock For Retail Shoppers

Soon many of you are going to go absolutely nuts trying to track down an iPhone 3G at Apple's retail outlets across the country, and that sounds like fun, but what if you get to your local store and they're out of the model you wanted? That would ruin your iPhone day completely. Thankfully Apple's got a neat page of its site that works with the retail back-end that tells you what phones are in stock at which stores. Put in which state you're in and you can see if the 8GB, 16GB, or 16GB Black iPhone 3G is in stock at your local store, or, more likely, which store you have to drive to to find one. [Apple]

It'd be nice if they had actually included the number of phones left or in stock!

@apeguero: That would change way too quickly. For the first few days, they'll either have a full shipment, or none. It will happen that quickly.

That's helpful ... it's after the store closes :)

Can only check between 9PM and 8AM.... awesome. We've come a long way with POS tracking. *sigh*

I wish there was an Apple store near Memphis... Then again, around here it would get robbed every day... by me!

I call BS on this one. I can't even begin to imagine the number of machines this data must pass through to reach your browser. At the rate these things will sell, these numbers wont mean a damn thing.

This site was supposed to go live Thursday July 10th at 9:00pm. I forgot to check it then, and wanted to look now to see if any AT&T or Apple stores near here had units available.
Seems like someone forgot to throw the proverbial switch because it doesn't show any information on stock levels...the button to "check availability" does nothing.
