I’ve seem them advertised for $612 inc gst due 27th june, XP version (see shopbot.com.au). If you believe the Oz articals then asus says by the end of june so that fits. Linux and XP versions same price just more ssd for linux. Perhaps some stores will stock the linux version once they’re out? I’m going to get the linux as I’ve already payed for XP once and I’ll just install it (actually legal if you own both computers And you care about such things – not me, I just use MS because I have to for work (Photoshop) and games). Price will definently drop as soon as all the other umpcs hit in days to months. I like the specs and look of the acer aspire one. It is cheap though well built but has only 512 ram. Still I remember XP was happy on only that much despite what people seem to think.

Hmm considering that cost price to the stores ($611) if they sell them for RRP ($649) that's only a $38 profit...

Ok, I guess it's a bit more once GST is taken into account, but still... I can't forsee many retailers marking them down much below $650.

They’re charging 650 now on the asus website for the 900s – this is the 20 gig linux – nowhere ive been able to find online has the smaller xp versions of the 900..

I think the $649 price is way over the top.

The base, Linux powered MSI Wind is expected to sell for US$399 soon. It also has the Atom 1.6GHz processor but also a 10" screen and a larger keyboard but weigh only a smidge more than the Eee PC 901.

Within the next few months I expect the 900 to disappear altogether and the 901 price to tumble but I still think the MSi Wind will come out on top.

I would just like them to justify any price that is more than 10% greater than the US price seeing the current strength of the dollar. The only other factor could be transport but surely that wouldn't be more than 5% of the total.

I just hate getting ripped off especially seeing the current strength of the Australian dollar.

Too expensive. Sub 500 was a no-brainer. Now I have to start comparing lots of coming models. The moment has passed. Asus has made an error. Like Apple.

My girlfriend got the 900 for $570 from Bing Lee. She’s very happy with it, and the price. And it does everything she wants – I doubt that she would benefit substantially from a slightly longer battery life

Seems some AU stores are already listing the 901 around the $699 mark, with some as cheap as $625.
This is for the 12G Windows XP version.

Couldn’t find any info on the 20G Linux version
