Radiohead Finally on iTunes
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 9:20 AM on June 4, 2008
Tired of being bold and exciting, Radiohead is capping its return to the status quo by finally making the move to iTunes. Everything is available as iTunes Plus, and you can buy tracks a la carte (a first). Was anyone still really waiting for this? [iTunes via TUAW]

@konstantConsumer:
Yeah, I'm hedging my bets with you on this, which is compounded by the new release as of today of a BEST OF Radiohead album being whored by Capitol as well. I'm sure the band was not 100% behind the move, as it is widely known they prefer the release of albums instead of songs available individually. In any case, it was inevitable, minus the BEST OF album (queasiness and jitters ensue).

well, radiohead probably didn't really ok this. they got out of their capital records deal, and capital is probably just trying to make as much money as possible on them.

Probably one of the coolest things I've heard recently was the score for "There Will Be Blood" by the guitarist from Radiohead...Jonny Greenwood. There's definitely a lot of genius in that band, although I still think Thom needs to smile more.

So basically...they're still signing to record labels, and available on iTunes...like every other band. Still waiting for them to do something revolutionary.

"Still waiting for them to do something revolutionary."
They should give away all their possessions and commit harikiri.
That would satisfy gizmodo dorks for about a minute and a half.

@Escamotage:
No, they aren't on a record label. Since they left EMI (or chose not to renew a contract) the label has been trying to squeeze every penny out of the Radiohead catalog by releasing an overpriced album boxset, the 'best of' CD/DVD, and by making the music available on iTunes. All of this is being done without the group's permission.

Matt Buchanan once again putting his penchant for responsible journalism on display! Great work, Matt. With out you, everyone would still be under the outlandish impression that Radiohead's former label, EMI, owns the distribution rights to their pre-In Rainbows catalog and is making it available on iTunes regardless of whether or not the band approves. Oh wait...

Those of you that are asking "who cares?" are making fools of yourselves.
Radiohead are the biggest band in the world at the moment. Bigger than U2, bigger than Coldplay (and a million miles better, at that...). So what if most massive RH fans already have their catalogue on CD? There's a lot of people who are yet to discover that RH may be their next favourite band.
On a personal level, I won't buy any of their music from iTunes as I have every song they've released filling something in the region of 1.4gb on my hard drive, and I would suggest anyone looking to acquire a similar back catalogue would search the second hand stores and browse Ebay rather than downloading
