HybRed PC Casemod Gives the iMac a Severe Inferiority Complex
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 3:00 AM on June 29, 2008
Before we get into the details of this compact HybRed PC casemod from modder Ville "Willek" Kyrö, let's set the scene, shall we? An iMac sits comfortably at a local coffee shop, its wifi at 100%, eagerly sucking down megabytes of the latest Natasha Bedingfield mp3 from iTunes when all of a sudden, the HybRed bursts through the door and orders *gulp* a medium coffee, black, and pays with cash! Queue the scratching record as the iMac wets itself and shorts out. And... scene. More seriously, the all-in-one design is really all the HybRed shares with the iMac, because as you'll see this is one serious gaming rig.
Inside the glowing custom-built aluminium chassis of the HybRed Gaming PC is an Athlon64 3500+ CPU. Graphics are handled by an nVidia GeForce 6800GT on a PCI-e bus. The power supply, as you can see, is kept separate in its own illuminated case. Red LEDs (HybRed, get it?) keep the rig illuminated when the lights go down low. [Metku Mods via Technabob]

I saw this thing, and all I could think of was the loser snot nosed punks who put neon lights on their 98' Acura Integra. I'm sure it was a nice concept in their heads, but the idea is outdated, and makes you look as hip as an MTV reality TV show. By now, everyone has to know that desktops are a dying breed. Wow, you modded a PC to save space. You know what I did, I bought a Mini-notebook. Good luck lugging that flux capacitor of a computer around places. Yeah, needless to say, this thing gets the EPIC FAIL stamp from me. Why was this even posted on Gizmodo? Is this the creation of one of the writers retarded cousin and they posted this story for a sense of assurance? Next time buy the kid a hooker and a Best Buy gift card, and spare us from this bullshit.

Yeah, this really pwns the new asus and acer gaming desktops. Really, k thx.
Okay, this is stupid. Only thing worse would be a case mod of a cabbage patch doll into a 1337 gaming machine with a 2600barton and a 5200 geforce, and can't forget the creative audigy card!

@Mr.DuckSauce: I think it's to save heat instead of space. A high powered graphics card and power supply put out a lot of heat. Might as well not stick them in the same metal box.

Nice way to save space I see, but the powersupply is a danger zone if not protected.

@OMG! Ponies!: LMFAO, you almost had me in tears.
I suggest mounting a screen in the side of a desktop tower, it mite take up less space.

3500+? 6800GT?? that crap is in my 4 year old laptop. Looks like by the time the owner finished this thing it was already seriously outdated in terms of a "gaming PC"

You know why Mac owners don't do this? Because it makes your computer look like shit.

"More seriously, the all-in-one design is really all the Hybred shares with the iMac, because as you'll see this is one serious gaming rig.
Woah, for a second there I thought it might be 2004 again.
Then I remembered that the 24" iMac has a Core 2 Duo at 3.06ghz and an 8800GS; on top of that, it is an actual all-in-one (PSU included), and not ugly as sin.

An 6800 is so old, my grandma has one in her computer, and an amd 3500+ are you joking, u cant even play online games with that shit. @OMG! Ponies!: I am a particularly bad speller, so much so that I am no longer certified to spell on behalf of my country. While there's something kind of emancipating about spelling as a free agent, it's not for everybody. You give up a lot. Think Into The Wild except instead of hiking by yourself into the Alaskan wilderness, you're basically spelling on your own.

lol al forms of tech are dying breed in some way or another. i personally plan on putting together a high end gamng PC and run it remotely in my house from a laptop. they're cheapr than laptop machines and they are easier to put together as well as easier to replace the parts in.
in a couple hundred years we'll probaby have something along the lines of the famous ps9. until then though we're going to continue to invent new stuff, only to make it udated technology a few years later.

Really are you that anti-Apple that you had to post this POS and try to downplay the iMac???
I'm not a apple fanboy, I own 3 laptops one with XP, one with Ubuntu, and one is a Macbook.
This thing is ugly and useless. I might have given it props, I mean props to the guy who built this I guess, but the way it was presented makes me dislike it from the get go.
Seriously get over the comparisons when something just doesn't compare, for better or worse.

@frigg???: I'm a lawyer by trade and I've never put my faith in the F7 button. When it comes to spelling and grammar, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, which is fitting for my job which, as far as appeals are concerned, entails submitting a 15,000 word argument to a panel of judges.
Moreover, I think of my professional writing like playing poker. When my adversary gets a 20-page motion with 200 pages of supporting exhibits, printed on redline bond paper, and velobound, it makes them take notice. When they see that it is free of spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors, that just sort of underscores the painfully blunt arguments and aggressive-but-conversational tone which I am known to employ. There is a head game that is all too often lost.
Plus, being ironic is better than being a grammar nazi.

@Manator (Follow me and die!): It's a CASEmod. It's about the CASE, not the hardware. What the fuck?
Also, those of you bloviating about how attractive your Macs are... Listen... Macs kind of look like crap. You basically walk around with a smudge-and-scratch attracting white plastic box that kind of looks like a giant case of eyeshadow, or a huge girl's pencil-case. The aluminum ones are slightly better.
Granted they look better than MOST other laptops, but that's not saying much. Most laptops are fugly.

I think it LOOKS pretty badass in the dark - but as others have nicely pointed out, bad hardware on the inside. Maybe if this was blue or green it'd get more love.
Good job Mr Kyrö, I salute you.
