Honlai's MP100 Palm-Sized LED Projector For Puny PowerPoint Presentations
Posted by Sean Fallon at 8:40 AM on June 4, 2008
The MP100 may not be as capable as other palm-sized projectors, but what it lacks in terms of spec it makes up for in design. Actually, scratch that. I have absolutely no idea how a projector with a 5-watt LED, 10-15 lumen output, and 200:1 contrast ratio could be even the slightest bit useful. Plus, it can only throw a maximum 37-inch 640x480 image. Personally, I am content to wait for mini projectors (or Pico projector) technology which should hit sometime this year (or so they say).[Digitimes via Ubergizmo via DVICE]

@itchytooth: I was gonna say the butt end of a futuristic Polaroid camera.

@Monty: Well, I only present to suits out of the closet. (However, I would consider making an exception for Tom Cruise.)

@frigg: I was gonna say, an alien head.

Maybe this lilliputian projector could be used in a Born Rich-style dollhouse? Miniatures aficionados could then one-up each other with statements like, "Well, my 1:12 scale Queen Anne Victorian has home theater with a movie screen a full 8 inches across!"

It looks like an evil robot frog with big purple eyes.

But can it heat buns AND drain the fat right away from the meat?
If so, this one is a knockout.

If you are giving a presentation to suits in a small closet, then I could see how this would be useful.

i think the perfect use for this is on airplanes. you could project your movie on the back of the seat in front of you.
all you would need is a laptop and a big 'ol battery/110 converter in your carry on luggage, and we all have one of those too, right?

It's got card slots and USB ports...it's clearly not really for video/presentations.
It is for...
...wait for it...
...showing digital photographs of your kids! To their grandparents! Who don't have a computer! But don't let that limitation stop you: I'm sure everybody else you know would like to see pictures of the time Li'l Timmy put on his mommy's shoes. And that other time he did the same thing! And the time he looked sad while eating vegetables!
You really oughta just have this projector permanently hooked up in your cubicle, with pictures ready to go, just in case somebody stops by.

@frigg: @martyz: Maybe we can compromise by saying it's a purple butted alien, giving evil, futuristic head to a Polaroid robot.

@nutbastard: Hah.
The fact that the image seems to be computer generated is kind of odd. Usually this means that the real product is months or even years away (think Art Lebedev). I thought cheapo chinese products like this had a development phase of like two weeks, and after selling some units for another two weeks, they disappear completely. So why "tease" the public with a preview like this?

Whoa.. They should donate one of these to my teacher. Prof takes about 20 minutes of our 1 hour classes plugging all of the wires of his huge NEC projector and waits for the lamp to heat up to show the screen. This could be a good thing for teachers with powerpoint slides within their lectures.
PS: It looks like a futuristic paper shredder!
