Guy Hacks His Roomba with LEDs, Transforms It Into Pac Man
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 8:45 PM on June 2, 2008
Anyone out there with a fetish for hoovering in the dark (anyone out there with a fetish for hoovering, call me, because I need a new cleaning lady) might like this hacked Roomba. Ron Tajima has created the Pacma, using 448 yellow LEDs, and a control unit made of an MPU that connects to the robo-vac via a cable and uses Bluetooth. Fun? Ron, my rugs are just crying out for you. Is that really how loud a Roomba is?
Based on the description, I thought he was just going to pimp out his roomba with LED lights underneath like a how they put lights under a car.

Am I the only one left thinking that the yellow LEDs didn't really live up to their name?

@Step666: Yeah, they seemed rather multi-colored.

@Step666: i agree - but that could have been the quality of the camera picking up the color_
But aside from that - it's still a pretty damned good attempt_ And the way it shuts off is priceless_

Coo! hack... I'd buy it.
Thinking of getting one to keep the floors clean and the cat amused while we're @ work, but I have a serious question. Do Roomba's suck? Suck it good?

Pacman will never go out of style. Now if he could make a maze with dust pellets that would bring Pacroomba to life.

I'm waiting for the knock-off "Puck-Man" version. That was one of my favorite Apple IIc games.

@LoganSix: Roomba is still a vacuum cleaner after all...
Couldn't he have at least rigged a speaker to do the wakka wakka sound?

All well and good, until it eats the super huge dust particle and then goes after YOU, its creator/slavedriver.

laaaaaame... video's been removed. I saw this post this morning and left in minimized to show a friend at work who I constantly harass for paying a robot to do his vacuuming, but when I went to show him all I get is "this video has been removed"... for WHAT?

@MasterYong: Um...that's because you left the post minimized. YouTube videos linked on other sites have some weird feature where if you don't start playing it soon after the original page loads, the video is no longer accessible. I'm sure it has something to do with wasted bandwidth and what not. Try refreshing the page.

Kinda neat idea, but I was a little disappointed that the colors in the LEDs didn't really cooperate
