Griffin WindowSeat Holds Your iPhone/iPod Touch at Eye Level For Convenient Viewing, Face Hitting
Posted by Jason Chen at 5:00 AM on June 3, 2008
This Griffin WindowSeat is a suction cup-based iPhone/iPod touch mount for your car, allowing you to keep your phone at eye level for easy map viewing and voicemail checking. What's left unsaid is how sturdy this thing is in case of an accident, and whether it will come careening off your window or dashboard into your face to make a comically iPhone-ish indentation on your cheek. Either way, it's US$29.99, which isn't all that expensive for the ability to surf the internet while driving (kidding). [Griffin via PCWorld]

@shamoononon: Thanks for the tip. I see that the GPS bill recently passed through the CA Senate but I have not been able to find any info on its status in the CA Assembly. I'll be on the lookout for such news.

Does the suction cup have a swivel mount that flips around for a headsup display so that cyclists, who stick it on their foreheads, can enjoy simultaneous hands-free cell/texting and application of makeup?

@itscarmennnn: I suppose if you are a vegetable, a quadriplegic, or in a catatonic state, you probably shouldn't be driving. But we have driving tests that one must pass in order to drive, and if a one-armed, one-eyed, one-legged man can pass the test, then go ahead and let him drive :c)

@takashimike 2.0: In this world are idiots..and with these idiots they won't just use it for what its being advertised as. Look at baseballs and hotdogs those are meant for sports and food and you have people putting them up girls assholes and vaginas!
@itchytooth: Thats fine, but I don't want to die in the hands of someone elses, lol.
@Rabid Penguin: What about those assholes with no feet, they have like these LOONGG clamps that they use their hands to break and accelerate. The world of motor vehicles isn't really meant for THOSE kind of people....

@itscarmennnn: People who are talking on cell phones while driving typically drive slower than those who don't... that's the only thing that really pisses me off. I could care less if someone wants to talk on their cell phone while driving, or smoke while driving, or sing along to their favorite radio station while driving. I really don't care. Hands-free talking would be ideal, because your reaction time is slower with one hand... which raises the question, should people with only one arm be banned from driving. I suppose they shouldn't be driving while talking on a cell phone unless it's hand-free at any rate.

Let's hope the dimensions are similar enough to fit in a window seat designed for iPhone 1.0. If not, I'm sure it won't take long for someone to come up with a version for iPhone 2.

I hate this. DON'T KILL ME becuse you just HAVE to watch youtube videos while driving behind me. I really don't get why our local and national governments are so fucking stupid to not do anything about banning cell phone usage without hands free devices while driving.

If it has a built-in self destruct mechanism for when a cop pulls you over (this would be illegal in our state), then this is a good product. Otherwise, not so much.

With a good 3G chip in it, then this would make sense.
In the event of a head-on collision, it catapults the iPhone safely to the back seat.

@justinpe: I'm under the impression that the iPod touch isn't the same dimensions as the iPhone, so if the holder can hold both of those fine, then it's probably a safe assumption that it'll hold iPhone 2.0 as well? That's just my guess.

Damn I should have patented that! I made something just like that by taking the suction cup from the Sirius Sporter 5 and modding it with the belt clip from the rubber speck cover I use to protect the beautiful bar of soap. But that is the main problem with this one - if you have a cover for your badboy you are screwed.
