Coolpad Phone Has Dual SIMs, Dual CDMA/GSM
Posted by Jason Chen at 6:00 AM on June 18, 2008
This Coolpad phone is the thing to have for the type of person (arms dealer, super spy) who has to go abroad often and doesn't know what kind of mobile phone service they have out in who knows where. It's got two SIM slots, which can swap between your home US network and a foreign one, as well as the ability to swap over to a CDMA network as well--in case you have to do some dealings out in Korea. It's available now in China, Africa and Indonesia, so pick one up the next time you're illicitly selling M4s to rebel troops. [Crave Asia]

@James: No sh*t huh? Why can't a phone be set up for dual numbers. When someone calls, your phone will either lite Personal or Business.
Same with outgoing too, you'd select which one you want. Get with it wireless people!!!!!!!!!!!!
Probably too much market for accessories and stuff I suppose.

I can't believe that there aren't more dual sim phones. or some kind of dual phone number support from a cell provider. It seems stupid to carry around 2 phones - work and personal. But a LOT of people do it.
as for the stylus comment... I love my iPhone. I love the touchscreen. But a stylus would be REALLY HANDY. I hate playing games where my finger is in the way. interface buttons could be smaller too. smaller onscreen keyboard (more room for content), etc.
I personally think finger only touchscreens are a bit of a step backwards (same as the wacom tablet / lcds - I prefer a drawing surface and a screen separate).

@Rabid Penguin: Is it a stylus? Or a dialing wand?

Why does the picture appear to show a CDMA SIM Card? I can understand if the phone is dual CDMA/GSM compatible, but CDMA does not use a SIM card. Odd picture.

It's about time someone did this! I would've paid $1000 for the smaller technology years ago! Am so sick of handling multiple SIM's and phones (for CDMA) - My old T62u (analog, TDMA, and GSM) was a brick.. and only one 'locked' SIM. That was in the days of weeks unlocking software, and dealing with crappy TDMA.
Rock on!

@Carmen is VERY sick: Haven't you ever heard of the Nintendo DS? And obviously, people with fat fingers could benefit from a stylus... and a good weight-loss / exercise program.

You can't move M4's... The NATO ammo leaves a trail. 9mm ARs are the money makers.

@drbles:
Actually the CDMA standard DOES have a SIM equivalent.
...it's just not used in the US...yet. :-)

actually, china has been making dual sim card phones for a while. i know because i have one and no the quality is pretty good. i have an older model that only allows you to use 1 sim at a time, so i set the second sim to forward calls to the first and presto! however, to make calls on the second sim, u need to switch over and reboot (takes about 30 secs). you do not need to turn off phone. on ebay, they are now selling 2 sim card phones that r quad band and both sims work at same time. not bad. these phones are pretty good, from my own experience. and the speakers are load! Great for listening to music!

@Carmen is VERY sick: Well, I'm pretty thin but I have stupid fat fingers, so if I had a touchscreen anything I would probably use a stylus. I just would hate to get finger grease all over my shiny touchscreen toys.
