Colour-Changing LED Shower Head Actually Purchasable
Posted by Jason Chen at 4:50 AM on June 5, 2008
The last colour-changing, heat-detecting showerhead was some kind of nebulous OEM product from China, but this LED Shower Light is actually purchasable from Thinkgeek. Unlike that one, this only has blue and red, but it works exactly the same: red == hot, blue == cold. Unfortunately, the red in this activates at 32 degrees C, which is actually still colder than your body, so unless you like lukewarm showers, this maybe ain't so great after all. [Think Geek]

@Jimbuck: a massaging hot-tub bubble wonderland be wonderful , remember to put towel under door and you can build a snowman in there for it raises high and gets harder when dries.

How about a multicolor strobe so I can feel like I'm showing in the Wonka factory boat tunnel?

@Git Em SteveDave: No, but I usually leave the bathroom door open... it tends to scare away the neighbors.

If they made these adjustable then I would buy one but I really can't see the benefit in knowing when the water goes from being cold to warm. I don't know about any of you but my water heats up to 89 in a matter of seconds.

Let's hope that Chen's shower head is always projecting blue.
I'm not sure Shamoononon would be able to live knowing that knowing that the Chen is putting his famous crotch in harm's way.

For those that like to play 'spooky campfire stories' in their shower. Actually, i would so turn off the lights and make weird nakid person scary faces in the mirror.

Is it bad that my first thought was "probably just need to change a resistor to move that red transition temp up 15 degrees"?
Seriously - you could hack this with RGB LEDs and have it vary the color as the temp changes...cool!

I don't understand. What's unfortunate about the light turning red at 89 degrees? Its not like the water isn't going to get any hotter, the light just isn't going to get any redder. Am I missing something?

89 degrees isn't hot in terms of showering, idiots.

What I don't get is why no one's put in the whole "purple" "gray" area for luke warm. So that it gets redder as it gets hotter. Everyone would know thier own shade of purple.
Heck take it one step further and put in a LED display that shows you the temp.

Rather than coloring the whole water stream, a color halo/ring around the shower head would look more subtle and aesthetic

89˚? Here in SW AZ I've taken straight-cold showers in the summer that fogged the mirror!

I have the sink version on my kitchen faucet. Works exactly as advertised. It's a good little gadget, because something in my apartment's plumbing makes it take about TWO MINUTES before anything but ice-cold water comes out of the faucets. It's nice to be able to do something else besides hold my hand under the water while I waste all those gallons waiting for it to warm up.

Great concept! For kids and adults but what gives?! 89 Degrees! to change colors? Last time i checked you body temperature is much higher... @Git Em SteveDave: Just checked out the Sink version... Both are really cool and chic. Nice addition to a modern bathroom! They should have different colors to match the decor...
