Blackberry OS 4.5 Not Officially Arriving Until September
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 4:00 AM on June 29, 2008
The Blackberry Internet Services 2.5 upgrade (and subsequent downtime) is still go for a June 29 launch, but there's a catch. According to the Boy Genius Report, some of the "sexiest" 2.5 features won't be available until Blackberry OS 4.5 arrives--in September. From the looks of the BIS 2.5 presentation they got their boy-sized mitts on, at least one of those features is push AOL email and Hotmail/MSN accounts. Of course, if you have a newer Blackberry handset, or plan on buying one before September, it will come with 4.5 OS already installed. [Boy Genius Report]

Someone needs to tell RIM to stop listening to the chuckleheads over at PALM.
At the very least, they should have a stable release candidate out there. And it should be readily accessible without crawling through forums. The beta for 4.5 is neither worth the hassle of finding it, the two hours it takes to install it, the hours of rebooting from crashes, or the time it takes to reinstall 4.2.
RIM is really dropping the ball on this one.

The OS needs a complete overhaul. The hardware is still the same old same old. Why people call this the best email machine is beyond me. For years you can't even use HTML Rich Text email. Looks like their adding "catch up" stuff for whats coming down on the iPhone in a matter of days.

Idk what OS I got, but I hope I can upgrade to something spectacular, not that the current one isn't anyways >.>

sorry about your luck but I have been running 4.5 for a month and it is surprisingly stable for a beta release. Not a single reboot since the 45 min install.

I am new to the whole BB phenomenon, but am impressed with my Pearl (about 2 months old now).
There are few things that I would change about it, but I would still be interested in seeing what new features 4.5 is supposed to bring. I've seen a video of the Bold, but not sure if that OS is going to be the same as this 4.5

Blackberry seems to become very powerful because the new iphone will not work as good as expected... This is what we seem to understand on [www.themostpowerfulcompany.com] when we see the trends

@Gonzie: 4.2 is the most recent stable release. Do not put a beta of 4.5 on your Curve. It's not fit for every day use and crashes the phone about twice daily.

I plan on buying the Bold when it's officially release on T-mobile or no longer price gouged for an unlocked version on eBay, whichever comes first. Until then it would be awesome to have the added functionality of Office files on my gen 1 Pearl in addition to the other system upgrades. However, from everything I've read the Bold and curve will benefit more so due to their added features and full keyboard (i.e. spell check, etc...).
