Bill Gates Retirement Party
Posted by Wilson Rothman at 8:00 AM on June 24, 2008
The time has come. On June 27th, Bill Gates will stop commuting to Microsoft's Redmond campus on a daily basis, and begin full-time work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. You probably know that for Bill, retirement doesn't mean what it meant for your dear old granddad. He will still visit his Redmond office once per week, doing what Ballmer tells him to do. Nevertheless, it's the furthest Bill will ever separate himself from the software biz while he's living on this planet, so it's something to commemorate, for better or worse.
Be on the lookout for some loopy posts, some thought-provoking essays, some retro vids and galleries, plus some analysis of a Microsoft sans Bill. It's been a great run, Bill, and in the end we wish you well. So you'll forgive us if we roast you a bit during your final week on the job. [Bill Gates Retirement Party]

So for his golden handshake, he gets a diamond-encrusted 24k solid gold hand.

What, no invites to the retirement party! Man, and this is how they treat a stockholder (20 shares, taken in the shorts, etc)...

@shamoononon has a hebetudinous dog: Tuesday. We already unveil the Photoshop contest results on Tuesdays. Cuz like Tuesdays would be so BORING otherwise.
@DJJS: That would be a Jesús Diaz original, and there's more where that came from, so stay tuned.

Live long and prosper (some more) Bill. Take some time off dude. Buy a Mac Pro and taste the other PC world. Tell Microsoft to port MS Money over to the Mac will you? It's the only reason why I still use Parallels :)

I think what Bill Gates is doing with his wealth is beautiful. He is, with Warren Buffet, almost single handedly making the world a better place for the least fortunate. Bravo and Good Luck!

Indeed, it's been a great run. As much as I craved a Mac(book), or installing Linux...I've stayed faithful. Now, if you would be so kind, reward me. With money. :)

I actually will miss him. I could not have wished a bigger monopoly on a nicer guy.
I am afraid I only have a few poorly written stories from long ago, but I will post this one from 1996:

Wow .. Things have changed. Or, maybe they haven't.

Gates' retirement is like Barbra Streisand's last Concert Tour! What a great way to get some publicity for free and occupy the media.... At the times for Google/iPhone, Microsoft gets the headlines again. And not for Vista!

As a former Microsoft follower, I'd like to say,
Without Bill Gates, there'd be no competition, and where's the fun in that?
Without Bill Gates, we'd probably be still using Xerox Stars or System 7.
Without Bill Gates, Apple would have world market share dominance, and we don't want a one OS world.
Bill Gates had an awesome run. An awesome run, indeed.

look at the bright side at least we won't have to hear anymore people blaming Bill Gates for problems with hardware/software.

@Judacris,
Don´t worry - We´ll be sure to give Microsoft a run for their money with Linux, so Apple won´t be it´s only competitor - you can be sure of that....rest asure of that!
