Behold the World's Largest 3D Display (Now in Glorious 2D!)
Posted by Mark Wilson at 12:00 AM on June 6, 2008
Sharp has been showing off their glasses-less 3D Parallax technology for years, and now they're partnering with VMJ to create the biggest commercial 3D display in the world. A 65-inch 1920x1080 LCD with 120-degree viewing angle, it's priced at around US$30,000—meaning it's more aimed at wooing the crowds in public spaces than your friends at your next Superbowl party. So until you have a 3D monitor to call your own, enjoy the thrill of viewing this 2D representation of the device. Sorry we can't do better, but if it's any consolation, we render all media in tactile holograms here at Giz HQ. [Impress]

This technology is only useful for video games and porn.
That said... we need this technology, pronto.

@Grifter: What's really neat is when you walk around the back. Gives it a whole new angle.
And believe it or not, if I saw Tila Tequila comin' at me, I'd put on a hazmat suite and jump in a pool of Purel.

65" very doable inside. Expensive but if you got the money, it would be fun to wow your friends. Does it need 3d content to broadcast?
1)Where is the video of this 3D(2D) processing? I guess if you could see it on the computer you wouldn't need that 30k TV!
2)Also the 2nd question is do you really want Tila Tequila in 3d comin at yah? Okay dumb question...
3)PORN! Will it broadcast porn in 3D?!

The porn industry might be willing to help subsidize the monitors to bring the price down.

I can't wait for someone to describe this technology as "eye-popping" and "breathtaking". I guarantee you I will set a record for how quickly my brain blocks out said marketing drivel.

I would assume not as well.

Do we still have to wear the stupid glasses?
I would assume not if they are aiming for the public/advertising markets. It would be pretty stupid to walk around handing out those glasses to people and going "here walk on by THIS screen"

I affirm technological advances, but does this really advance the image of America that we really want or just make us look even more self centered and narcissistic?

Head tracking is almost 3dtv.
there are many supported racing and flight simulators these days.
All you need is webcam and mod a bike led light freeware software too .

can't imagine the kick it gives with synced glasses.

If this tech proliferates into a popular format, than politicians are going to have more to worry about than just their HD wrinkles and blemishes

I don't get it...I'm looking at the image, but it's not in 3D!
Do I need special glasses to see it?
If it were to work, I imagine it would be quite eye-popping! Perhaps, even breathtaking!
...Ok, I'm done. I promise.

Can someone fix the external link? It is translating a Japanese webpage as Chinese and half of the text were treated as Junk. Please change the link to specify Japanese (ja) not zh-CN.

I won't be interested until it sprays the smells of your movie all over the room for super realism, as well as shakes the couch and changes lighting in the room accordingly.
