Asus Eee TV (Too Far?)
Posted by Mark Wilson at 7:00 AM on June 6, 2008
There's no doubt, Asus really shook up the technology market with their Eee PC mini-laptop. And to parlay the Eee's success into a success for all of their electronics, Asus came up with a plan. Just call everything the Eee! Here's Asus' new Eee TV that was spotted at Computex, described only as a "rather plain looking LCD TV playing the Blu-ray version of Pixar's Cars." If it runs US$299, sign us up. Otherwise, we're getting a bit confused as to the eeexact definition of the word... [engadget China]

I agree. This eeeNonsense has gone too far.
These products better be dirt cheap like the original eeePC.
Also, I expect real logo branding - not some disgusting script fonted eeePC...I like the Asus logo, it's burly and manly - STRONG.

@JadoJodo: @Kaiser-Machead: My mistake. I think this is the end of the beginning animation and it's zooming in through the words.

The top text look so fake, more jpg artifact, no reflections (its metal on wood.. we dont usually print on wood -_-)
Perspective is not perfect...

This isn't a bad idea for a teenager's room, or a dorm room, where space might be at a premium. Why send them off with a laptop and a TV when you can send both in one device?
Okay, honestly it's getting out of hand. The all-in-one was one thing, but an all-in-one and an all-in-one with TV tuner? As seperate products?

@Kaiser-Machead: Pixar movies start out like this. The camera pulls back to view the whole thing, then the lamp goes psycho killing the other letters.

@nutbastard: Annoying product names, yes. But its not even nearly as bad as having "GT,GTX,GTS,ULTRA,GS,X2" thing that nvidia have going on.

This Eee thing is spiraling out of control. Also, Asus - your model numbering system is pathetic. Calling ANYTHING the Thingamajig 1000 is just asking for consumer rejection.
I mean, Gilette can sell Mach 3's all day, but how well would they do if they were dorky enough to call it the Mach 1000?
ASUS: FIRE WHOEVER IS COMING UP WITH THESE ANNOYINGLY RIDICULOUS PRODUCT NAMES.

What's with PIXAR being cut off on the sides? Zoomed in to get rid of the black bars? That sucks.

Once EEE goes into the 13/5 inch range and there still claiming there UMPC's then we can start calling Ridicules, I think they should stop at 10"

Branding is the professional art of applying non-sense to the optimum conversion of gadgetry and crap to the benefit of no one.

Yep, definitely trying to pull the iCrap from Apple.

@nutbastard: Master Bastard care to discern/expound then on why we have impostor brands that bank on that level of repulsion

you know what? I take it back.
I was talking about this the other day with a friend - ad campaigns / marketing that is so stupid, clunky and embarrassing that people can't help but remark on them. This generates buzz, and firmly implants the brand name in ones mind - the consumers opinion of the name doesn't matter as long as they talk about it, which is another form of the "just make sure they spell my name right" thing.
Of course you can't get so retarded with it that you cause outright repulsion. No, it can only be *so* stupid before it's 'fucking lame'.
Case in point - Zune. The name is stupid enough (and downright unmemorable - people i told about the zune kept saying, 'what's that thing called? that microsoft ipod thingy?') to warrant repulsion, and it doesn't REALLY have anything on the competitors.
Asus gets away with it because their names aren't THAT stupid and they DO have something on their competitors.
