Asus Eee PC 901 and 1000 Get Super Duper Official
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 4:00 PM on June 3, 2008
It's hard to believe that Asus's Eee PC 901 and 1000 didn't officially exist until this moment. But now they do! Officially. 'Course, there are few surprises left (except for battery life, they're claiming up to 7.8 hours), which takes the fun out of it: Atom processors, 12 or 20GB (up to 40GB SSD for 1000, or 80GB HDD for 1000H!) storage, depending on whether you roll XP or Linux. The 1000 is much like the 901, but with a 10-inch screen and a less cramped keyboard that's 92 percent of the standard notebook size. Annoyingly, still no official pricing info, but if they really wanna move these, it'd be wayyyy under that crazy $650 figure we heard.

I logged in just to say that my dinner tonight was a double-double, fries, and a vanilla shake. :)
Also: $600 or more? No longer a new category of laptop, sorry, it's just slow, low-spec laptop that is a tiny bit smaller than average for about the same price. I guess Asus is just extending the brand of EEE to real laptops.

@Delaportas: Ahhh, I'm from the east coast originally (and a few countries) but in-n-out vs. white castle... you don't know true pleasure until you've eaten at in-n-out. I will shut up now.

Ahh 3 models too soon, if the 901 stays under $550 ok.
Somehow I doubt the Eee 1000's success, I can easily see ASUS dropping the 8 ball with the price tag.
This would be nice:
701 4GB: $220
701 8GB: $299
900 12/20: $400
901 12/20: $480
1000 ??/??: $550
Though many 'o 900 owners would mob in anger, still I'd rather see this in the coming days after computex than any other pricing scenario.

Price point is what's going to sell these, not size.

@mikecoscia: I'm going to guess the same as on the 901. All the newer ultra portables except the HP seems to be following the 1024x600 train, which is sad. With a 10" screen under the hood you would think that extra pixel real estate would be a no brainer.
I guess they wanted to keep their costs down...except not pass that cost savings on to us. Big loss. The MSI wind is looking sweeter and sweeter.

during any rare, infrequent west coast appearance, in-n-out is the first stop on my trip.
that and there is this drive-in place in OC, tucked back a ways, but i will be damned if i can remember the name of the joint

Silly question (how can we stand without them?), but I didn't find it anywhere:
What's the form factor of Eee1000?
Hopefully same size and weight of 700/900/901 ...?!?!

@me...
Found it:
1.45Kg (x 901's 1.1Kg)
considerably fatter, by the photos...
