Air-Conditioned Tie 2.0 From Thanko Knot Very Fabulous, Really
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 10:40 PM on June 20, 2008
Those egg-heads from Thanko have spent the best part of a year banging their large, domed cerebelli together, tackling what is without doubt the biggest question that the human race faces this millennium: how to upgrade their air-conditioned tie. And this is what they came up with—hiding the fan grille behind the fabric. Let us stop on this Friday morning (day, slow, news, a, it's, yeah. Now make a sentence out of that) and consider the evidence:
Old Tie.
New tie.
Old tie.
New tie.
Repeat ad infinitum (rather like Thanko's R&D department does with its products.) [Akihabara News]

Okay so the guy in the picture is enjoying the AC a bit too much, if you know what I mean...

if I had to endure one more Japanese summer, I probably would have invested in one of these, too. It's so freaking hot and humid there. I don't see how all the businessmen survive wearing their suits.

How would it work if you wear your dress shirt properly buttoned up all the way? I guess some air gets up around your neck and chin area...

For a moment I was frightened that it was not USB powered, but now I see in the picture that it is. I feel better now. It's important that your tie be USB powered.

@AJ_Syrinx: Is it blowing down? Better than Gold Bond Powder.
But the real question. Does it blend?

Yeah, but... See, offices are air-conditioned. So if your USB port is handy, you don't really need it. What do you do when you have to actually go outside? Do you have to carry your laptop or a portable USB charger?
Is it even A/C or just a fan?

I know the number of violent killings in Japan is low but how many die a year for accidental electricution?

This turns your tie from a metaphorical leash into an actual one.
I, for one, welcome my current t-shirt-allowing office overlords.

@etaripamai: I don't think it works as advertised.
I'd prefer this guy/gal's idea.

The main problem I see here is that here in Japan during the summer it's operation COOL BIZ that states that one should NOT put a necktie so that the AC doesn't need to be set to the max.
So... what are you going to do with an AC necktie during the not-so-hot other seasons ??

Does the other end of the AC tie give you head? That's what it looks like from the pics...
