Portable Projector for iPhone is Concept from Honlai
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 8:40 PM on June 11, 2008
On show at Computex is Honlai's portable projector for the iPhone. It's dock-style gadget that you slot your first-gen iPhone into, beaming a smallish image onto the wall in front of you. This strikes me as such a good idea—it's currently just a concept—that I really hope Honlai, the brains behind this palm-sized LED projector, put this into production. Catch a bonus image after the jump.

Woah, sweet, even if it's a one trick pony. I get so frustrated each time I see something cool and then it turns out to be a concept. Start making stuff!

@GeekyNerdGuy:
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.
But in all seriousness, this is quite a cool idea. If I might throw out a suggestion, make an adapter to go with it so that the iphone can be plugged in rather than sitting in the dock. That opens up the ability to play accelerometer-based games like supermonkeyball come release of the 2.0 firmware.

On a dark night, would it be powerful enough to project porn on the front of someone house from my car? If so, I'll put down a deposit now.

meh, make it work with the bluetooth profile Video Distribution Profile (VDP) or make up another BT profile that would transmit video, then we could use it with phones other than the iPod... of course the phones would have to have a BT stack that would include that profile... and sadly I don't know of any that do, hence why they have a customized one above that fits only an iPod.
Perhaps some moron making phones might put in a few extra BT profiles even if they are unused, to allow someone to make a program to use them on that device (Symbian, WinMob, Apple, BB, etc.)

@davere: There might not be a big enough market for the device. If it comes down to money, it might only be worth making a concept now. I know how you feel though cuz I would like to see more devices come to fruition.

seems kinda inconvenient... not many people like humping the projector when doing presentations. hard enough when the machine is 4' away (like most included cables) ... but having to advance slides and whatnot by getting right next to the projector? meh. i guess for movies it might be okay... but the specs seem hardly "home-theater" ready in all honesty.
i'd like to see a iPhone/iPod -> VGA/DVI cable. through the dock connector... not video connections.
(maybe they exist... haven't looked... seems useful though.)

I smell movies galore. This is pretty neat, I dont like watching a full movie on that small screen and the cable cords that connect the iPod to the TV sux(speaking from experience).

That is freakin' cool. It'd be nice for the bedroom or anywhere else you don't want a full size tv taking up space.

This is actually not a bad design....at least a lot better than those stupid desks and tables. Whatever they called them.

July's 2008 Popular Science magazine on page 80 tells you how to make an iPOD video projector for $25 in 30 minutes. I know print media's supposed to be dead.

I was talking about a similar thing with my friend the other day. I was suggesting that someone should make one of those projector keyboards for the iPhone. If they did, it would be much easier to write whole documents on the phone, and do some real work or write essays.

Did anyone else notice the yellow and white cords running into the back of this thing? Sure, maybe it's a concept, but that doesn't mean it's operational via the iPhone.
