Notes: Eat Honey Bee Vanilla Hagen Dazs, Save the Bees From Your Mobile Phones
Posted by Brian Lam at 10:06 AM on June 17, 2008
Hagen Dazs is selling a limited edition brand of honey flavored vanilla ice cream and it is the most incredible flavour I have ever experienced. But don't eat this ice cream for the benefit of your palette. Do it for the bees. Which your mobile phones are allegedly murdering.
A portion of the profits from this flavour are going to support research investigating, among other things, whether or not mobile phones are responsible for the shrinking bee population; 40% of all natural flavours Hagen Dazs uses in its stuff depend on the critters for their creation. After finishing one pint, I went back to the store, and bought the remaining quantities on the shelf. UPDATE: Yes, it is just that delicious that I can justify writing a Gizmodo post about it. Israeli scientists discovered that bees were being hit by a virus. So, everyone can calm down. As for this flavor of ice cream, it's "okay", try the caramelized pear with almonds, it's 1000 times better.

Please spread fact not FUD.
Cell-phone radiation was largely discounted as a cause of CCD months ago. If one puts a hive that suffered CCD on top of a healthy hive, the lower hive will also suffer CCD. Cellphone radiation cannot cause that. CCD is currently thought to be caused by either mites or other microorganisms.
What CCD does illustrate is the dangers of celebrities glomming onto causes without doing research. While I enjoy Bill Maher, his fearmongering of cell-phone radiation and its purported link to CCD was a prime example of celebrity-fueled junk science. And no, he doesn't talk about it anymore.

As for cell phone radiation messing with the bees, I read as a kid that bees navigate visually, and can actually see the polarized light of the sun to use for direction.

How to make the best ice cream in the known universe.
1. Go somewhere snowy in over Christmas. Wait for a large cold fluffy snowstorm. Collect a BIG tupperware container of white dreamy-ness while drinking Baily's and cold coffee.
2. place snow in a deep freeze-type thingy for transport home.
3. Have sex in front of a fire.
4. Take snow home. Don't let it get warm, it will turn to water!
5. Save it until your birthday, preferably July 20th.
6. Mix it with cream sugar and vanilla until it taste good. You'll know.
(the magic number)7! Eat it. Remember snow, Baily's, and the sexy! Yummm
The cold snow crystallizes the milk fats very quickly and make the best IC. So does that cold gas stuff (blanking out) but not as much fun.
My mom used to save snow for my birthday every year. I miss her. But not in a sexy way. More in a I-miss-my-Mom way.

@Brian Lam: Am I still able to use my own scoop at home or do I have to use the stores scoop in the store and then take it home? What if I get it directly from the ice cream store, surely I can take it home and eat it becuase none of their staff are certified to sign me up for a re-occuring double scoop... right?!? What if I want to buy the ice cream as a gift, they certainly cannot expect me to eat it right then and there when its for someone else? Damn these subsidized ice cream prices and policies against scooping at home!

Bee population collapse is a serious problem that's hitting the industry. Bees are a critical part of fruit production, no bees, no fruit.
The condition is believed to be caused by heavy pesticide use, in particular one specific pesticide (now banned on certain countries) but still allowed in the US because of the heavy handed lobbying by pesticide companies (because they lose money if their poisons get banned).
You can read an article on the subject @ [www.sptimes.com]
