European Bastards to Get Free iPhone and Great Monthly Plans
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 7:16 AM on June 12, 2008
It's official: O2 and Telefonica users in the UK and Spain will get the iPhone absolutely free if they sign up for a 18-month plan with a US$88 monthly cost. But how "free" is free? Is this really a better deal than AT&T's US$1,975 24-month plan price? The answer is yes, absofrakinlutely. Those countries got really good deals, enough to convince me to buy the new version:
The total cost for the O2 18-month plan is US$1,591, which every month gets you:
• 1,200 minutes of voice calls.
• 500 text messages.
• Unlimited data transfer in both 3G and Wi-Fi networks (at The Cloud and BT OpenZone Wi-Fi spots.)
• Reduced roaming rates.
Sure, having 24 months will get your total price to $2,121. But the fact is that, after 18 months, you are free to get elsewhere, and you are getting almost three times the voice call minutes, and 2.5 times the amount of text messages.
Compare that to the US$1,975 iPhone 3G plan in AT&T:
• 450 minutes.
• 200 messages.
• Unlimited data transfer in 3G networks.

Stop whining. Brazilians will pay something between US$1678 (70 min + 30 text + 10MB) and US$5883 (750 min + 200 text + 150MB).
And our gas price is f***ing US$6 per gallon.

I was told that there would not be any math involved in my iPhone plan pricing calculations.
Why can't Apple just sell the phone for what they want to sell it for, and the carriers charge what they are going to charge to activate it - and be done with this convoluted 'what you pay over X months' nonsense?
It is a rhetorical question, of course. I know why they do it, but I just don't know why they do it.

Does O2 and Telefonica have the concept of rollover minutes? And...has AT&T confirmed the pricing for text messages? I have the existing AT&T customer plan on my current iPhone. Its essentially an iPhone adder to an existing voice plan. I have 450 rollover minutes, 5000 night and weekends, unlimited mobile to mobile for $39.99, unlimited data and 1500 text messages for a $30 adder. With rollover, 450 minutes is fine for me. I'm slowly building up a hefty reserve of talk time. After all the tax and crud the monthly bill is $82.

First: why there is no info at all in Gizmodo's Spain page??
Second: Where can I find the info telling that we are getting the iPhone for free in Spain, Ok, there is a press release for O2 in the UK, and Ok, O2 is Telefónica, but, Movistar and O2 doesn't have to have the same tariffs. I not saying you are wrong, but the info concearning Movistar (Telefónica mobile division in Spain) is missing, did you just believe it, or you know it??

1200 minutes and 500 texts for £45 is a rip-off, especially since in most countries but the US, people tend to text far more than call.
T-Mobile offers a tariff in the UK which gives you 600 minutes and unlimited texts for £30/month and there's a pretty large range of handsets available free on it.
The problem Apple have in the UK is that even if you want the iPhone, O2's tariffs are wank - they just don't have enough texts.

Another subject is the fact that beer in Spain--under the heat on the beach, a village, or a bar anywhere, having some good tapas--tastes better than anywhere else. But that's the environmental factors, not the beer itself. I've found plenty of better beers elsewhere.

Take your friends and you favourite beer with you, and we´ll give you the sunny day. Probably the beer you´re carrying could be find here, but that´s another point.

Anyway as for Rogers' pricing, they will most likely offer a semi decent data plan for average data usage - otherwise, Apple would have never offered and eventually sold the iPhone in Canada.

This still isn't a very good deal compared to other phones in the UK... all which have the same/better features as the iphone.... it should be free on the £35 a month...
