Eddie Izzard Talks Steve Jobs, iPhone
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 6:00 AM on June 13, 2008
In case you didn't know, English comedy genius Eddie Izzard is touring the US right now. Giz reader Daniel Eggert saw him last tuesday in Houston, a day after the WWDC08 keynote. Why mention the keynote? Well, to Daniel's surprise—and ours—Jeff Vader talked about none other than, you guessed it, Steve Jobs and the iPhone 3G.
I just uploaded a video clip I captured at Tuesday night's Eddie Izzard show here in Houston. He's off on a tangent of a tangent, discussing his never writing down material due to dyslexia, when he says "I wonder who DID name it dyslexia. hang on." and pulls his iPhone from his back pocket. He proceeds to search wikipedia and read from it and make jokes regarding the information on the wikipedia site for several minutes. Then jokes about Germany, then jokes about scrabble, then ... you get the picture.
This a few minutes after a sketch about cavemen and the stone age where he made several jokes about a Caveman named Steve adding GPS to rocks, making them move faster, and cutting the price in half.
[Thanks Daniel]

You are so right, and here it is!
Here is Eddie Izzard on computers. But watch were he slips in the end and says he has a Mac, but he is clearly using windows keyboard shortcuts!

He is one hot tranny mess I tell you...you should see him in a dress (no sarcasm intended).
And did you know he is *totally straight* and a complete womanizer and I am going to see him in Miami in just a couple days? What ever will I do?

I started watching the Eddie in South Africa about 10 years ago. A friend of mine from the UK had a couple of his acts on VHS (what's that?) This guy is the funniest bar none.... for some reason he always reminds me of what a Garry Larson comic would be like if it came to life... his humour is so twisted and off the wall... LOVE IT! If you haven't seen it you have got to see "dressed to kill" and "definite article" ... it's some of his very early stuff
".... are you happy with your wash!"

I saw Eddie Izzard in Boston, which was way before the WWDC and he was already making jokes about the iPhone, Steve Jobs, Mac OS... and it was hysterical.
Eddie Izzard is really a genius. By far, one of the best comedians around.

probably not laugh as he's not very funny in his standup, as opposed to some of the films he's been in where he IS funny.
you only have to check his bit on San Francisco in Dressed to Kill for proof of this.

I saw him in Philly about a month ago. A little rough around the edges (it was his third show of the tour I think), but hilarious as always. This tour is full of Mac and tech references. Very funny though about Steve the caveman adding GPS and cutting the price in half. Obviously, we weren't privy to that joke.

I went to the show in Austin. He was really funny and went on about some of the same iPhone stuff.
He also mentioned it was hard moving people from the old stone age to the new stone age because of a 2 year contract.
My favorite joke was his take on the iPhone GPS. He produced the iPhone from his back pocket and remarked that it narrowed down his current position to a 20 mile radius... which he could have told the phone himself.

@Rabid Penguin: If you think that Mr. Bean and Douglas Adams have anything in common other than being English, then you are never, ever going to understand.
I would really, really like to know what you *do* find funny.
But, just because it's fun, I'll list some of my favorites:
Any books by Douglas Adams, P.G. Wodehouse, or Terry Pratchett
Television shows like:
Peep Show
The Young Ones
The Fast Show
Not The Nine O'Clock News
Never Mind the Buzzcocks
Fry & Laurie
Men Behaving Badly
The IT Crowd
The Comic Strip Presents
French & Saunders
Black Books
Father Ted
Oh I give up, this could take ages, and you're not going to like *any* of it...

@DelSource: Except for two Monty Python movies I really haven't seen anything British that I thought was funny. It seems very dry to me, and that's just not my thing. If the British shows that I've seen here in America are not a good representation of the type of humor I would find in shows if I actually went to England then fair enough, I've been spoiled with bad shows.
Maybe you should list the greats for me and enlighten me on English humor, because Mr Bean, and Douglas Adams just aren't doing it for me.

@Rabid Penguin: Are you taking the piss? Do I even have to list the greats of English comedy?
That just *has* to be a lame ass attempt at humour, which would make your post rather ironic. But then again, not many cultures get irony........
