Forgot to mention that the "Death Star Droid"/ RA-7 protocol droid (black threepio for those that are like huh?) Is also super cool. I loved the HD pictures *appears* as if I could see that they indeed made him a unique head piece capturing his evil deep-set eyes. Him and threepio can make a cute couple, with threepio bring the "catcher" of course....
@J0hnP:
Hmmmm....Im caressing my threepio right now and his hands are the same color as his body, I wish he were the limited edition mock gold-plated threepio but alas.
I keep looking at these pics and it does appear as if his hands are flesh colored. Im sure this has to be a mistake....

@Nintenboy01: No, my main concern about your first post is whether, at that speed, you'd be able to pull out in time.
@Kaiser-Machead's got LindsayJoy's cookies on the SuperDrive: Suggestion - while the lawyers for whom you work are trying to work the copier/scanner, take the opportunity to take the heavy-duty stapler out for a "test drive" - with a good swift thwack to the base of the skull. Nothing beats a Swingline Rabbit-Punch.
A lit cigarette in a redweld on a Friday night just before leaving is also a great outlet for your more destructive impulses.
As your lawyer, I recommend against both. If you do either, please don't videotape it and upload it to YouTube. And by don't, I mean please do.

Ah, now you guys find this. Saw it on Brickshelf a day or so ago, when my mind was stuck on looking for what Lego could make. And did anybody see the sharks with freaking laser beams attached to their heads in one of those new Agents sets? They also have a Grievous model coming out, not as spiffy as I'd like, but good enough.
@Monty: Not like I know whether or not you'd have a chance, but now it's obvious- "No cookies for you!"
I'd rather have the whole confection though. (cheekily grins)

3) It's LEGO, not Legos
4) It's Star Wars
5) It's the DEATH STAR
6) Speaking of the DEATH STAR, can we change the caption for the correct capitalization of DEATH STAR...please. It's a space station with enough firepower to destroy a planet. It gets all caps.
7) Seriously. If you look at the plans that were smuggled in Artoo, it clearly says DEATH STAR, not Death Star.
8) This LEGO set is now the ultimate power in the universe. I suggest we build it.

Also, I can tell you are new cause I had a profile pic up with me and the giant General Grievous, its been around for a while and its pretty awesome. You can order it on the LEGO site, but I warm you that it is a bitch to put together, not a very sturdy set, I am almost afraid to touch it cause it falls apart easily. Phlutdroid? Couldn't they have just called him IG-72? For that matter, does using a black Exo-claw for the neck warrant calling it a "unique" and "exclusive" minifig?
@Mr.Wilson:
Ditto about Brickshelf, but those pics were all stolen from the S@H website (note the effect haze around the pieces comprising the energy beam, which is lacking here), and these are way huge compared to those as well. Especially if you hit the 1080 size. I'm considering buying the sharks (with laser beams) on Bricklink someday, but the current wave of Agents sets just doesn't do much for me (aside from the villains...which I'll Bricklink). Now, the upcoming volcanic super-laser of doom, on the other hand... Also, the Greivous set is out, but it's a S@H exclusive. TRU _might_ get it, but don't hold off too long waiting for it to arrive. Anyways, I expect both will be on display this weekend at Brickworld (Chicago), and in a few months at Brickfair (D.C.) and BrickCon (Seattle?).
@LindsayJoy's MBP is into S+M:
I had to go recheck the images after reading this, but after saving the third pic to my harddrive and zooming in a lot...no, it appears to be just a black C-3PO head, much like the K-3PO from the Hoth set last year. We're still missing silver and red, by my count.
As for the Limited Edition 3PO, I'm not sure I've heard anyone call it "mock gold plated" before, especially since the real thing probably wouldn't have been gold plated either. And there are a few that are even rarer than those. Part of the same promotion were five(?) 10k solid gold 3-piece (non-articulated) C-3PO minifigs. It's been a full year since Mr. Delanoy mentioned this to me, but I think he said something about one chrome-silver 3PO and one chrome-copper 3PO being given out last year at Brickworld.
The C-3PO appears to be the same darker gold version used in the Sandcrawler set, which has also been noted for having mismatched hands.
@LindsayJoy's MBP is into S+M:
I don't yet have the Greivous-statue, but it can't be any more fragile than my BIONICLE-scale Greivous MOC. The legs keep falling off at the hips if I keep it set up too long. I mostly just keep the series stowed in cases these days.
@oopl:
That was just a display piece. This appears to be loosely inspired by the Brazilian Palitoy Death Star playset from the vintage line (or perhaps this MOC of it), but with lower floors and rooms/characters covering both versions.

How about talking about how cool the set is rather then nit-picking on a mini-figure that they consider exclusive because you don't think its special enough. If they change the coloring of a droid it does become a unique mini-figure. Just as you identified the Threepio in the Sandcrawler as being a darker color.

@UpIrons:
Sorta. The standard male hair isn't 70's enough for his ANH appearance, but they went a little overboard by giving him the old shoulder-length female hair. It appears that, with the exception of Kenobi's hood, all five of the minifigs from the UCS Falcon have been included unchanged. Hopefully that's not the case, because Han really needs to be in blue pants, and Luke would look a lot better with a tan version of the hair they used for the Clone Wars Anakin (set 7669).
@LindsayJoy's MBP is into S+M:
*sigh* You do have more worthwhile things to say than a lot of commentors (many of which are more interested in your anatomy than the articles), but you come across as a fairly recent fan. There's nothing wrong with that, if that's the case, but there are some amazing LEGO-specific resources on the internet, and in most cases a few minutes of easy research will tell you whether what you assume to be true actually is.
As for the tone of my replies, your first reply to me was pointedly insulting, considering we'd never heard of each other before then (or at least I'd never heard of you), but the fact that a guy doesn't preface his comment by congratulating you on your anatomy doesn't mean he's trying to reciprocate. You mentioned only being aware of one blonde minifig. I gave you a linked list of all the tan minifig hairs, in case you're serious about wanting to make a sig-fig, and you got pissed off. You mentioned wanting one of the gold-chrome C-3POs (they're not hard to obtain if you don't mind spending a few bucks). I told you that there are some actual solid gold C-3POs that were given out in the same promotion, and that I'd heard (from a reliable source) about some even rarer versions that were special gifts, and you got pissed off. We disagree on the quality of the Batman and Agents sets, but that's opinion and everyone _should_ be entitled to express theirs. I'm just not infatuated with you the way everyone else around here seems to be. Want to change that? Show me something you built from scratch (bonus points if it's an accurate minifig-scale Batpod, because I'm not happy with the frame I designed), not an official set that I could buy tomorrow. I've built the UCS Falcon, which trumps pretty much everything else they've ever released (even this).
As for being an expert, well, I've met one of the two foremost LEGO historians and I can't even begin to claim that level of knowledge (though I did manage to teach him a few things). What I can claim is a deep love of the brick that predates the minifig, and a fairly robust knowledge of the more bizarre/obscure parts, the ability to track down most of what I don't know (provided the Peeron/Bricklink databases are updated/accurate).
But seriously. Build something. Knock my socks off. Freaking inspire me with something that I'll wish I'd built myself. Then I'll respect you. Until then, you're a fan, but not an AFOL.

BTW, on the "unique" minifigs, if the Vader does indeed have a new torso design, I'd rather they promoted him as being an exclusive minifig. The Death Star Trooper? Sure, never been done before. Black protocol droid? Again, parts that aren't available elsewhere. The interogation droid will be a matter of never-ending debate (there are some who don't consider a brick-built bot to be a minifig, while others want them to be listed as such on Bricklink so they can actually buy them that way). The Luke/Han Stormies are even more debatable since they're just head-swaps. But the "Phlutdroid"? It's the exact same design as the IG-88 from the third minifig-scale Slave I set, but with one part in black instead of silvertone. This is the first ANH Obi-Wan with a hood, but they didn't call him unique. For that matter, I haven't seen more than one or two custom dianogas, and that didn't get listed as a first-time minifig either. But mostly I just question the use of the "Phlutdroid" name, as that's so obscure a term I couldn't even figure out what they were referring to until I looked it up (I can't recall it being used in any EU novels before, though it might have come from one of the two RPGs), especially since I passed over IG-72 as being pretty much the same build as IG-88 and kept scanning the photos to see if there was a droid that didn't get included in the minifig lineup image.

Dont be too proud of this technological marvel you have constructed, it's power is insignifigant compared to the power of the force!

Now if the 5,000-piece LEGO Millennium Falcon could be parked in the landing bay of the LEGO Death Star, that would be totally uber.

@novacthall: Where is the cafeteria?? Where else is Jeff Vader (aka - Mr. Stevens) supposed to order the penne ala arrabiata??
Don't forget the peas!
Set is super-duper awesome, would love to have, but if I'm gonna spend $400 it would be on some new Air Jordans.

I now know what to ask for, for Christmas... and no, the children will not be allowed to touch it.

Just realized, this model is not accurate. On the original Death Star, which this is obviously supposed to be, the main laser did not come out of the central hole of the dish. It came only from the focal point of the smaller lasers around the edges.
It was the second DS in RotJ which had the main laser come out of the central hole (in addition to passing through the focal point of the smaller lasers).

@Purple Dave: @LindsayJoy's MBP is into S+M: @Brian Lam: @shamoononon has a hebetudinous dog: @Cordfucious the Black:
Ok, as a moderate poster here, and as someone old enough to be all of your father (Noooooooooooooooooo,,,,,,,thaaaaaaaaaaatsss impossssssssssssibbbbbble) I just want to throw in my two cents:
calm the heck down.
Purple Dave you are undoubtably brilliant and a true scholar of the genre. No one here would disput that. And you are of course entitled to your opinion, as we all are. Remember also that "opinions are like a$$holes, we all have them and they all stink." We do try and stay away from outright denigration, of course, and while I wouldn't say you are guilty of that, I recognize the tone and some might take it that way. You are an excellent writer, by the way.
LindsayJoy, you are the perfect LEGO amateur in the true sense of the word: you do it for the love (ama - to love). You have youth, exuberance, excitement; you truly bubble over with joy on this subject, and you write very well also - in a very different style.
And I guess that's my main point - there is room here for everyone, even me - and we would be worse off if someone left in a snit, or we had ongoing, continual snipe-fests.
It is never necessary here for people to be mean to each other. It happens. Ignore it, move on. Next time do better, be nicer, be more constructive.

@xboxishuge:
My point exactly! But the dianoga somehow doesn't count, even though the interrogation droid does.
@ps61318:
You'd have to be near retirement age to be my father. I was there when Star Wars came out, though I was pretty young at the time.
@ackthbbft:
But this is _both_ Death Stars, if only just barely (Emperor, Jedi Luke, and Royal Guards in the throne room). So it must be the DS2 main cannon as well.

Okay, I don't mean to be a dick (even though I usually am), but $400 for a lego set?! For crying out loud, that is why everything costs so damn much, because people will pay for it. Sorry, I am just a cheap-ass.

Nope_ the Millenium Falcon still has this one beat_ I really love the figures from this Death Star set - but the Death Star needs to be at least twice as big - especially for that price_ It's just too small_

@maven2k:
25 minifigures is pretty much unheard of outside of stuff like the Community Workers pack (which is pretty much _just_ minifigs), and at nearly 4000 pieces it'd never price below $350 unless it was a very basic rainbow pack like some of the big tubs. There's a new series of town buildings that seem outrageously expensive for their size (all fit on a 10"x10" baseplate) until you realize that they range from 1200-2400 pieces each and have fully/elaborately detailed interiors with 4-wall construction, where a basic town building is generally nothing more than a one-wall facade with a few shelves for "flooring" running maybe 500-700 pieces.
They've realized in recent years that high-end sets will actually sell. There's a guy named Jake McKee who made great strides in getting The LEGO Company to even realize that adults still religiously collect LEGO sets (never mind the fact that they have bowls of bricks set out in their meeting rooms, and pretty much everyone who works there probably loves building stuff). He's left the company now, but he put out this really cool video pitching the new company he started, but most of it's talking about how hard it was to change perceptions within TLC. ~37 minutes in he discusses the most insane thing they ever did, which turned out to be the UCS ISD. A few years later the UCS Millennium Falcon nearly sold out of its initial 10,000 set run on pre-orders alone. A lot of older fans are sick to death of chumpy little facade-style buildings with low piece counts, repetitive designs, and no detail, and they've proven that there really is a market for some high-end stuff (you should see the monster chess set that's due out this year). Sure, they can't pitch most of this to brick-n-mortar toy stores, so it's pretty much an online market, but it's a market that they've only really tapped within the last 5-6 years. This set is for that market.
