T-Mobile Sues Starbucks Over Free AT&T Wi-Fi

T-Mobile is suing Starbucks over its free Wi-Fi from AT&T. The gist is that Starbucks and AT&T are promoting free Wi-Fi in markets where T-Mobile still has the exclusive right to “sell, market and promote its services” since the infrastructure transition to AT&T isn’t complete. In fact, technically, the only two markets running Death Star-certified equipment are San Antonio and Bakersfield, California, meaning the rest of the stores are still on T-Mobile’s network. So AT&T’s making bank on T-Mobile’s dime.

Giant Curvalicious Bookshelf Winds Its Way Through Your Apartment

Brazilian design firm Triptyque has designed an apartment-wide storage solution/book shelf that looks kind of like what everyone thought the future would be in 1965. Custom-made for a private apartment in Sao Paolo, the shelf winds its way through the entire area, pulling double duty as an entertainment rack and a cubbyhole storage system. Add this on the list of things I’ll be adding to my bachelorette shag pad once I become a multimillionaire. Check out the layout.

Ugliest iPhone Box Apple Never Designed

Here’s a fake of an iPhone 2 Unboxing. Yeah, I don’t even think Apple considers using cardboard in their boxes unless it’s covered in a glossy finish. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t post something like this, but I think we can use this as an example of what happens when non fanboys get in on the fake action, and a foil for the unusually fine box design Apple engages in. Also, this is a pretty funny counterfeit. [Web Mobile via IPhone Savior]

What the hell is with all these damn iPhone posts?! Atari Founder Nolan Bushnell to be Portrayed by Leonardo Dicaprio

A movie based on Nolan Bushnell’s founding of Atari was sold to Paramount on Friday and Leonardo Dicaprio is set to play the lead. Most people remember Bushnell for Atari, but I remember him for the scathing pit of rancid pizza and yuppie spawn called Chuck E. Cheese.

Source: OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Will Support PowerPC Chips

Contrary to rumours that Apple would drop PowerPC architecture support with its newest OS, a tipster and possible Apple insider was able to get his hands on the most recent build of the yet-to-be released 10.6, and found some evidence that Cupertino might be keeping the chip alive.

Financial Times: iPhone 2 to Be Sold “at Significantly Lower Prices”

Financial Times is like the UK’s Wall Street Journal, so they don’t print things lightly–truth likelihood is very high. And they’re saying that the next iPhone will be subsidised and much cheaper than the current one, like we already knew:

Shuttle D10 Media Server With a 7-Inch Touchscreen

Here’s a small form factor PC by Shuttle meant to function as a media server. What’s clever is the 7-inch touchscreen and I hope some general UI for getting around your files and programs. I’ve stashed a Shuttle box or two in a closet, and it fit great but using a keyboard and mouse in the closet is rough. So is planting a monitor between your shirts and pants. So this is a nice idea. (Please ignore the photoshopped floating screenshots to the sides of the LCD.) [Shuttle]

Artist Repairs Walls In Italy With Lego Bricks

In an art stunt that Jesus is sure to love, artist and lego enthusiast Jan Vormann went around the quiet little town of Bocchignano, Italy filling its decrepit walls with lego pieces.

Transportation Bill Gives US$45 Million To Maglev Project, Sets It Up For Fail

A new transportation bill signed by Bush on Friday would free up US$45 million to build the U.S.’s first maglev train. The train will travel between Disneyland and Las Vegas at up to 480 kph and is meant to help ease traffic on the 400+ kilometre ride on Interstate 15. While I’m all for high-speed trains and efficient public transportation, isn’t the Bush administration forgetting something?
