Sigh...the only thing that would be useful for me in this update is the gapless playback. I love my Zune, but all my friends have the freaking iPod. Can I be your friend Jason?

Am I alone in hating the available themes for the software? The desktop suite really needs to adopt the Zune's background customization feature.

Gapless is supposed to be on the device update... but I still have gaps.

@Jason Chen: lol I didn't see that one coming. I have to make a checklist of comments that are currently on the blacklist.

Apple would be wise to incorporate some socializing into its iTunes/iPod ecosystem.
Side note: the Adama boys look a little wimpish against that pink flowery background.

@phantam: They said they are looking into marketplace integration -- there's probably licensing issues and they wanted to get SOMETHING up and running.

I hope they get some movies up there soon too... And maybe a video version of the Zune pass?? or maybe you could get both Zune Passes (audio+video) for just a little more, like $25 or something. (It'd be even better if the Zune pass would work for music and video at the same price, but c'mon, let's be realistic here... the money has to go to the creators too, and $15 isn't enough for both services...)

This is great news. Once they allow for 360 Live Marketplace video transfer to the Zune, then I'm a happy camper until I realize my wallet is even more so empty.

Say what you want about the Zune, the social aspect of the whole service blew my mind. I signed up and used the software without a Zune for a while just cause I liked the social part so much.
I'm surprised it took them this long to bring the autoplaylists back. I had to pass up the Zune in my latest PMP purchase cause I live and die by Autoplaylists.

Whoa! My Zune card is in the screenshot... I totally wasn't expecting to see that.
I'm actually really excited about the upgrade. I can finally bring tv shows to the gym like everyone else...

Zuneboards has a hack for to change the background. Also, the Zune software has 5 preset backgrounds.

@wcnghj: I ended up settling with Median, but I don't even like that one. If I was able to put my own background it'd look great, at least to me.
Hacks are nice, but are just not the same and not as convenient as native support.

This software has made me love the Zune.
Once i can get a subscription service (in Canada), i can leach all the music my friends have on their Zune, assuming its in the marketplace. Thats an amazing feature.
The auto-conversion finally takes my lossless audio down to a smaller, more battery friendly size, so i dont burn through the battery in a day.
Autoplaylists could use the ability to setup multiple rules (such as multiple Genres). But i guess it will do.
Im still wanting a third or fourth level of rating for music. The heart/broken heart still isnt enough to really categorize my music, since i have different levels of "liking".
Subgenres would be a pleasant feature. I guess in 2.6.
They Sync Groups seems like it can be useful, assuming you have metadata on your video properly setup.
The complete integration of your profile and the ability to see others profiles right on the software is nicer than i thought it could have ever been when reading about it. Even the main zune profile page is awesome, and so "facebook" like. They really did a great job.
With games going to CTP this month, im even more pleased with an already pleasant purchase. I cant wait to get the SDK so i can make some sweet apps.

Why is it that everything Microsoft programs looks like Windows 3.1?

Update did not go flawless for me. Zune 30 did not work after the software update. Had to do the device manager/software update rigamaroll before windows would see the Zune again. This is still a second tier product based on my experience.

2.5 is really chock full of good stuff. I am really stoked, that my gen 1.0 Zune still gets all the new stuff.
For selecting multiple Genres in Autoplaylist, I found this tip. After selecting one genre, add a semicolon and type another genre. It won't autocomplete, but the playlist will have that second genre included.
Ain't that just great?

2.5 is awesome. My Zune's working better than ever now, and the software doesn't suck so much (but still doesn't compare with WMP 11).
I hope the Fall update is just as great, since the Zune is doing the Spring/Fall big update kinda thing. I'm also guessing Zune 3.0 will hit then (probably every year).
