Work For Gizmodo: Asia/Australia Editor Wanted
Posted by Jason Chen at 5:58 AM on May 3, 2008
Hey you! Want to work for Gizmodo? We're currently looking for an editor in Australia, Asia (Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, India, etc.) or somewhere in the general region to work for us. Blogging/Journalism experience is preferred, but not entirely required. You just need to possess a passion for both gadgets and writing, and have more than a cursory knowledge of both.
AU: This is for the US site, obviously. If you think you've got what it takes, what are you waiting for? Writing for Giz is awesome!
Send emails to jchen@gizmodo.com with the subject "Asia/Australia Editor" with either three sample posts done in Gizmodo style (seriously, follow the template we have laid out), or a link to your current blog. Take your time with these so they best represent your writing ability. Also attach your resume and some information about yourself. It's a full-time gig, and you will be posting during normal hours (Asia/Australia's normal hours).

@Rabid Penguin:
I suppose it would help if I translated our intro phrase for you... I was in a hurry to get this first lession to print that I forgot.
"G'day mate!" - "Hello, friend!"

@Munch:
Let's start with a "Hello World!" style intro to learning the Aussie language.
Repeat after me: "G'day mate!"
Once you've mastered that, the next step would be to immerse yourself in their culture. Buy a boomerang, watch Crocodile Dundee, learn the digerdidoo, cook something on the barbie (I'm sure you're wondering what a barbie is - no it's not a doll lol - we'll get to that later). There are many other easy, and practice things you can do to start learning about there culture right away.

Buy me a ticket to Aussieville, and I'm in. I haven't had kangaroo steak since my last visit to the Olive Garden.

@pradster: I don't know one bloke that drinks Fosters. Thats the crap we don't drink here and export to the rest of the world.
I love all the misconceptions that every other nationality has about Australia. Cracks me up every time!

If you want to cover China, I suggest start using an RSS feed that isn't blocked there.
Also, does this mean you'd take care of our work visas/residence permits so that we'd be working legally in our country of residence?

Comment on Work For Gizmodo: Asia/Australia Editor Wanted I'm an Australian nerd (geeks are called nerds in Australia) who has been living in Japan for 3 years and a daily Gizmodo reader. I really don't mean to sound modest but I'd probably be perfect for this. I could only do it if the pay was >= what I'm currently earning as a web developer. Does anybody know what the average rate is?
