Windows Live for Mobile Hits Nokia S60 Phones
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 12:46 PM on May 29, 2008
If you play in the Windows Live sandbox (Hotmail, Messenger, Live Contacts and Spaces) and use a Nokia S60 phone, your life just got easier. Available today in a whole buncha places it wasn't before, the Windows Live app for S60 syncs your Live contacts and Hotmail account with the phone's address book and mail client (not push though), and lets you do pretty much all the regular Messenger stuff from your phone, like send pictures or files. And it's all intemagrated. If you wind up installing, let us know how it goes. [Windows Live]

Don't play in that sandbox. It doubles as Ballmer's litter box.

@freakshow1: It's a secondary video call camera (VGA). The real deal is a 5MP unit on the other side.

I seriously hope it looks better than that screenshot. WinLive Mobile works fine on WinMo, but that screenshot shows a really ugly interface.

Soooooo the camera is in the front so you can take pictures of yourself? Or is there a magic way of aiming the camera at the subject and hitting a button on the other side?
Who designs this crap?

Update: Never mind, that really is the UI. It probably looks ugly because of the background and theme on this phone.
That's why I don't use Symbian.

I really do love my Windows Live Search for mobile on my pocket pc. Great app. I just wish I had built in GPS on my Apache. O well. Still good, provided that you know where you are! Newest versions can even find movies and gas prices, and does speech recognition. Great whilst driving.

that front camera is so you can take crappy pics like the iphone so you don't have to take really nice 5MP pics with flash using the back camera. (had to say it sorry)

please don't comment on the phone if you can't even recognize it...it's only Nokia's top of line phone and put most other phone to shame...

That phone is a brick. Full of apps, good performance, but as horrible as it seems in the picture.

@hmooby: I think a lot of the criticism was about the way it looks, as in, this phone looks like shit. To whatever degree of shame this phone puts others to makes no nevermind to me, as it still, in the end, looks like shit.

@literato: you ever actually use one? Or are you just commenting based on nothing at all? If you've used one and hate it then that's fine. It's my favorite phone and I've used many others it's been compared to and didn't like them but that's out of personal experience.
But this post isn't about the greatest phone ever as pictured it's about Microsoft not being able to get Nokia to go WinMo (thank God) so they're supporting S60 now. I don't use any of Microsoft's products on the N95 because I don't think they're useful or easy to use for what I need.
I'll also agree with the comment above that the theme they have on for the screen shot looks ugly as hell.

I was hoping this would give me something like the Windows Live Search app on WM, but all it does is redirect to m.live.com
Currently uninstalling
BTW, find me a WM phone that isn't fugly, or currently soft resetting, then we can talk.
