The WaSnake Shelf: It's Like a Personal Assistant That is Nailed to Your Wall
The WaSnake shelf concept by designer Jean Louis Frechin not only holds your stuff, it also features connectivity that allows it to display news from chosen RSS feeds and even SMS messages. Plus, the whole unit is highly configurable so you could find a spot for it on nearly any wall in your home.
All in all, I love the idea of packing more functionality into everyday objects, but I can't say that I agree with the artist's description of a "discreet," visual experience. There is nothing discreet about my naughty text messages being broadcast to everyone in the room. At any rate, it seems that the WaSnake will remain a concept for the time being. [Newlaunches]

This will be a giant hit in Hollywood, where it is well-known that keeping a real personal assistant nailed to your wall is trickier than it sounds and often involves employing a union carpenter.

yeah now I have a place to put all my self help books...and then see a giant text from my girl about how I'm a huge ahole! Score!

it only looks like it can hold CD's and a few DVD's

But can it actually be used as a shelf?

It has my name on it! Can't decide whether to be disturbed or inordinately interested. I think especially given the configuration shown, it's not as useful for RSS displays unless placed in basically a straightline shelf format.
I also see people coming over, getting stoned, and being really interested in watching it.

I'm all for packing more function into all kinds of stuff, and there is nothing discreet about that shelf regardless of the message! We need to strike a balance between function, discretion, and taste. This misses all three!

Nothing like reverting back to monochrome 4x6 pixel characters.

"Personal assistant" + "nailed" + "wall" = lawsuit.
OMG! Ponies!
OK, did you guys notice that this wa French texting?
"--Laura:tt--va bien--pri 10 Euros ds--Ton sac--"
Which in plain English stands for
"Laura, all is well, I took 10 Euroes from your bag"!

This would be so much better if the whole thing were LED panels, instead of four straight sections linked by pointless bendy black. As it is, it seems cheap and Spenser's-ish. (Spensarian?)

Yet another answer to an unasked question.
Some of these designers need real jobs.

How the fuck does a CROOKED book shelf work?
Seriously... who thinks thats remotely a good idea?

Can you say "Bank Street Sign Fetish?"

This is a great idea, almost as good as the rope-less jump rope from Sharper Image.

"It's Like a Personal Assistant That is Nailed to Your Wall"
As opposed to nailing your personal assistant up against the wall?
