Sony E020 Walkman Lets You Match Your MP3 Player With Your Clothes
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 1:00 AM on May 25, 2008
Sony's E020 Walkman, the flash-based MP3 player for kids who like to coordinate their gadgets with their outfits, will finally hit U.S. shores in mid-June. The E020 features a coloured three-line LCD screen and a built-in USB jack with drag-and-drop MP3 transfer system (no SonicStage this time around, thankfully). Its selling point is its swappable faceplate, which lets you change the music machine's style to suit your mood.
The E020 can be found in 1GB and 2GB flavours, for US$69 and US$79 respectively, and comes bundled with premium earphones and a handful of faceplates to get you started. Additional faceplates will be sold separately for US$12 each. [Crave Asia]

@pinkyfloyd1972 I agree with you, better battery life, screen and drag n drop, it's better than Shuffle.

No leopard print, zebra stripes or big hawaiian flowers. Discrimination.

Godd thing SONY doesn't do proprietary software any more...waiting to see if iTunes goes the same way.
Better battery life and a screen (compared to shuffle)...I say win.

@Elaine Chow: I guess... although no iTunes (if it matters), and to be honest, instead of a faceplate, I'd rather just magic-marker-up a shuffle!

Storage isn't big enough for my tastes but drag 'n drop is music to my ears

@frigg: Eh, I think it'd be an alright replacement for ppl who use the shuffle. Same sports-use/cheap concept, but this one has a LCD screen.

@ethanlechcharles: Errr are you not missing the point here if you don't like the orange and black you change the faceplate.
Here in England we have these people we call Chavs this is kinda shit they love , remember the first Nokia with changeable faceplate they lapped it up, every market stall sold pink ones, ones with weed symbols on, waste of money if you ask me, Microsoft pulled that same stunt with the Xbox, although no amount of faceplates can cover the fact the Xbox 360 looks like a pile of shit

@tucker: Sure, but wouldn't you rather buy something that you like so much that you DO worry about loosing, breaking or getting it stolen?

Why not make the case out of the 1970s-era "mood ring" material. Then your MP3 player will coordinate with your emotions. :)

Lack of SonicStage is nice. But when is Sony going to get over the orange and black thing? It's the ugliest ever.

@frigg: hmmm... i'm not so sure. i own an ipod and this thing is pretty cheap and might serve as a nice backup device that i wouldn't worry about losing, breaking or getting stolen.

I agree with Frigg (1st comment). This would be remotely appealing to me if the faceplates didn't cost more than my weekly allowance and if it looked somewhat usable. Of course, even if it was remotely appealing I wouldn't want one, I'm too in love with my iPod Classic.

If the idea is to reflect your mood after buy one, Sony should make a faceplate that says "damn, I wish I bought an iPod instead."
