Snap Capp Reseals Your Soda Can, Gives it a Lid
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 9:31 PM on May 27, 2008
It's possibly container-seal design month here at Giz, but we've found a winner in the Snap Capp. It's a cheap and cheerful plastic gizmo that pops onto a standard drinks can, and turns it into a resealable bottle, with a lid, to stop your refreshments going flat. Simplicity itself, and it's reusable too. Available now, in a variety of colours, packs of three for around US$10. [Coolest Gadgets via Oh Gizmo]

Umm... I was just wondering what happens to the dust (and any nasty stuff) that has collected on the top of the can, while it was in storage?
Nice idea but I think I would give the top of the can a wash before fitting the doodad?

I just purchased this snap cap today and tried it when I got home and I can't get it off??
Any secrets to getting it off?

When you finish your drink, screw the lid back on then just give the can a squeeze as you lift on it and it will come right off. Warning: DO NOT snap the cap on without first opening the drink can. You may have to break it to get it off, otherwise.

So I was cruing through La Pine, OR last summer on the way to burning man. We stopped at a gas station, where the cashier bragged a high school kid invented them, and they were about to be patented. We saw the bucket on the counter, and bought them all.
They totally work, once you figure out the trick to get them on, which is not easy. Many a fine PBR was destroyed in that learning process.
Also, they keep carbonation fresh.

My friend found these in a convenience store on the way to Burning Man last year and bought the entire stock. He gave them out as gifts on the playa and they were quite popular. They kept the dust out of your beverage.

Considering the fact that every brand seems to have slightly differently shaped cans, I would think this wouldn't work very well. Besides, if I can't use it simultaneously on my Red Bull or Lo-Carb Monster (very different sized cans), then it's not really worth it to me. (At least the larger cans of Monster have screw tops.)

They used to sell these at the corner store when I was in high school, so they've been out for quite a while. The rip-off is that they AREN'T reusable... you're lucky if you can use one 2-3 times before the plastic stretches and the thing starts to leak/fall off...

I bought one at a gas station near Las Vegas to stop up my starbuck tripleshot cold coffee. I thought it was a cool idea and well worth the 2 bucks spent. By the time I worked out how to secure it on the can, I spilled most of the contents in the car because the darn thing didnt seem to fit. It did of course finally fit and while I finished the last remaining two sips of coffee that I did not spill, I still thought it was a neat idea.
They should make it easier to attach for people with jittery hands.

I'm always finding half full flat soda cans in the fridge. I may pick some up for my girlfriend. I'm sure she'd appreciate it, after a good wipedown and rinse of the can top.

@The Turtle: You do realize that, once purchased, 12-packs can be broken down further into 12 individual cans, right?

Where can you even BUY canned soda any more? Very few convenience stores around me sell individual cans, just 12-packs. Even the vending machines at work are all 20-oz. plastic bottles.

Silly me, but I thought my g'ma's idea of sticking an old butter lid on her can worked pretty well. Can't imagine the seal on this being any better.
I do agree about finishing a can of pop though... except in g'ma's case, she couldn't finish a can in one sitting. So it made since for her.

@cubensis:
For adding pressure to your bottles. I think they are but I can't remember if 2 liters have the same caps as 20 oz bottles.

Well, from my experience, most people take that extra few seconds to wipe off/clean the top of a canned soda before drinking it. As far as not being able to fully drink a 12 ounce can, there have been many times where I would open up a soda to just gulp down a few sips and putting the can in the refridgerator to drink later. This is also good for little kids, who normally wouldn't drink an entire can of soda in one sitting. Of course none of these "can sealers" can beat the seal of a 20 ounce plastic bottle, but you have to realize that when you buy a 12 pack of sodas, those packs only come as cans, and if someone were to buy the 20 ounce plastic bottles, they are mostly only sold individually. In other words, this is just an option for someone that doesn't always drink an entire can of soda at one time. So if you're the type that always finishes up a can when you open it... this was NOT made for you.

Right, who wants half of a 12 oz. can of soda/energy drink/beer? We're not talking about a half gallon here.

@jonthomasdesigns: I was just about to post the same thing. Unless you have the bladder the size of a walnut, most people can finish 120z on a few seconds. Someone needs to invent a way to repressurize 20oz bottles.

Actually, this concept is not new at all; I remember seeing similar things way back in the early nineties. Unfortunately my memory is a bit blurry when it comes to the time before that time - due to childhood.
They're pretty cool, but I can't get past the fact that the drink will be freely sloshing around on the exposed dirty stranger-fingerprinty and dusty metal. Yuck. At least when you drink from a can, you can keep the contact to a minimum.

i seriously doubt that the seal between the cap and can would be able to maintain the pressure required to keep the drink fizzy.
another thing is that once you tilt the can to drink, the liquid would go back onto the top of the can. If the top of the can weren't clean, then i could imagine it to be pretty unhygienic. yuck.
