OLPC Having A TechFest In Sydney June 1
Posted by Nick Broughall at 3:01 PM on May 16, 2008

The OLPC initiative has come to Australia, and they're holding a special Techfest day for anybody interested in learning more about the XO, or those who just want to get their greasy hands all over one. There will be demonstrations, workshops and developer tutorials for both the hardware and software.
It's completely free, and could be a fun day out on a Sunday for anybody looking for something to do on June 1. It's being held a St Ignatius College, Riverview between 9:30am and 6:00pm.
For a full rundown on the day's planned events, or to RSVP (for catering purposes), head on over to the OLPC Australia website.

I've noticed ever since the deal with Microsoft pumping OLPC's full of XP, LifeHacker and Gizmodo have been all over it. I think it's quite clear with all the pro-Microsoft articles from a techno blog that you guys are getting a few "free lunches" from them and in return you tell the public about how wonderful Microsoft products are. Sorry, but you've just lost a regular reader.

Sorry you feel that way, but I can tell you that Microsoft has never taken me out to lunch. Or Dinner. Hell, I haven't even had a breakfast out of them.
So maybe, just maybe, you should read the site a bit more and realise that for every pro-Microsoft story there's one bagging them for something else.
And just because we cover something as news without bagging it doesn't mean we're all for it.
On a side note, Is there any mention of Microsoft in this story? I thought it was all about the OLPC.

Heh, probably collateral damage given the picture of the XO running the completely unavailable (and irrelevant!) XP... Maybe you'd like to come along to the techfest and snap a better picture of the XO for Gizmodo Australia's future use? :-)
Thanks for pimping the techfest!

Heh... It was the first XO photo I could find on Giz... I'll change it a bit later today... :)
