Nucleus Motorcycle Concept Would Be Interesting in a Wind Tunnel
I suppose it goes without saying, but the design team at Non-Object took all of the things we have learned about making motorcycles and threw it in the trash, pooped in the trash, then lit the can on fire when they came up with the "nUCLEUS"concept bike. Outside of the obvious design features, this "square against air" electric motorcycle includes a hydraulic system that lowers the body to the ground when idle and then raises it up when in motion—but all I can think of when I look at it is the word "drag." Again, this bike is only a concept, so don't expect to see it on the street anytime soon. [Yanko Design]

are you kidding? slant the headlight unit back, make it able to lean, beef up the engine and install a windscreen and you'd have a really quick and aerodynamic beast.
its stuning bike and would be great for film ticks, but the useage might just be limited.
Can anyone say, "SPLAT!" These guys need help. That is far from aerodynamic. artsie-trendy people need to say far the f&#@ away from photoshop.

THE ONLY REAL FORM IS FUNCTION
This is counter-design bullshit.
But if Apple ever starts making motorcycles... *shudder*

"Rather, it is meant to push the boundaries of design beyond the norm."
Yes, because when I think of pushing the boundaries of design, I think "Brick".
something_unique_and_descriptive
How do you unpack it if the handlebars stick out of the box like that?
Oh, you mean that's THE BIKE and not some disguised prototype?
That's retarded.
ChaoticLimbs
Delicious. The classy looks of a high-end refrigerator, combined with the comfort of sitting on a block of aluminum. Having my legs fall asleep never looked so good!
matto
Yet another design by the always entertaining Yankoff boys.

@Absent Blue: be **careful** what you ask for!
OG512
I'd rather ride Rosy O'Donnell than that thing.

@ SEAN
I can think of:
Drag
Uncomfortable
Impractical
Seeing as how having a lower center of gravity while in motion is usually the "in thing" so as not to become too top heavy - you'd think that these folks would have learned from past engineering advances in motor-cycle technology and automobile development where the modern thinking is to have the vehicle auto-magizally lower to the ground during motion_
uberfu
Damnit! Nothing from Yanko is technology! It's all just delusional postings of a handful of trippers with photoshop!
I will eat my keyboard if any of their designs ever makes it past prototype stage.

@wlcrm: Haha - I have that T-shirt. I get compliments on it every time I wear it!
FredicvsMaximvs
This is a pretty good design, I think. Those sides look like they'd make pretty good prybar/spatulas for scraping you up after you get blown under a truck...
FredicvsMaximvs
I would think that when you sit on the outside of a vehicle instead of the inside, drag is always going to be a problem.
I like it.
Jason
Looks like it would be nasty in an accident too.
GIZisGOD
It looks like a toilet tank to me.
Curves
It can't corner either. Imagine what would happen!
timh
You would look more manly riding a Vespa.
bms
It's a Xerox machine on wheels.
OMG! Ponies!
Ok, ok let's at least give it a fair shake. It's got everything faired in, possibly reducing drag. It's got unusual headlights, possibly more noticeable.....Awww! What am I doing!? This hurts! That thing is so FUGLY! The front end is like a gigantic air scoop....to the firewall....as if it's also pretending to be a parachute! It looks like a gigantic axe-head that rides up into your crotch!
whiteknight
Yanko, stick to what you do best : design unrealistic little crappy gadgets that will never go into production.
desostros
back to the drawing board me thinks
fastmike
Retard twice! Even the surfaces on that thing are retarded. How can you claim to be a designer if you cant even model a box?
Please dont put these on the blog man it isnt even funny!
Bilir_kisi
I am a REAL designer and I say: this is total bullshit. I dont even call it a design.
It is as if a noob 3dsmax user modelled sthg and said "this could be a bike if I put wheels under it" Retard!
Bilir_kisi
So when are they going to unveil the bike ?
neo316
They probably thought that a "wind tunnel" was "3 blonds in a line"!!!!!

This just goes to show that a lot of the stuff from Yanko design is from people who just don't give a damn about physics, economics, or general practicality.
They talk about it like it really exists, but all they have is a render. Even if it didn't just exist in the land of makebelieve, the front would behave like a giant funnel and the giant flat sides would mean a crosswind or passing car would mean bad news. Ever hear of the bernoulli effect? I would hate to see somebody riding one of these get too close to an oncoming bus or semi.
We've had motorcycles for over 100 years and wind tunnels for nearly 150 years. Science is not something to toss out the window and start from scratch because you want to go "away from the beaten path".

@i_prefer_sasquatch: Just having solid, non-spoked wheels is bad enough on a breezy day. Have fun with this one fellas. Not only that but it looks like once you hit about 30 mph, the wind being forced into the front end would induce a wheely whether or not that was your thing.
omelette
I know you have a lot of product to cover and not much time. I get that. But dude, you've got to at least take it out of the box before the photo shoot, you know?
ChromiumSwitch
The designers of this should be forced to ride it across the Bay Bridge everyday to work for a week.
It might give them some insight on the phenomenon commonly referred to as "cross-breeze."
Just sayin'
Looks easy to work on, too.
i_prefer_sasquatch
On the planet Htrae there are no Bézier curves in Tron.
DeadWriter
Looks... uncomfortable.

What, no touchscreen? That's no iPhone killer.
Huh? A motorcycle?
Shut up.

@strider_mt2k: THAT's what it needs! Diamond shapes a la HTC.
Kaiser-Machead
This isn't a diamond in the rough so much as a cubist-zirconium.
strider_mt2k
Ah, so they decided to let the people at scion develop a bike. Not a good call. Not a good call at all.
NotJonGreco
Designed by veteran Battlebot pilot?
Kaiser-Machead
This would look like you were riding a big harmonica.

Uh oh, someone left the capslock on.
