Well I know this of no use to you right now, but with the Free Wireless Project I'm a part of, rolling out city or at least CBD-wide wireless mesh networks piggybacking on unused monthly capacity and underutilised bandwidth that people volunteer to share (and lots of people are getting on-board with this) then wireless data would (as it should be) FREE!

we already pay way too much for mobile data in australia. wifi is also pretty expensive. My income (which isn't that bad) sees my iphones edge turned off, only ever getting mobile internet access via free wifi.

I think in Australia we really have to reduce the cost of these services before we can see a massive acceptance of these services.

In my opinion, I think Optus' business data plans are the best value for money if you have an ABN.

1GB - $20 /month
2GB - $35 /month
6GB - $50 /month

on a 12 month contract however the early termination charges are pretty cheap ($75 for the 1gb plan between months 1-6 and it reduces in time from there). Or go month to month for an extra $10/month on any of them.

I currently pay $40/month on my Optus Business plan for a whopping 7gb, tied directly to my phone for both 2G and 3G access. Needless to say, I don't use it, so I'm considering changing. (The reasoning behind paying $40 is that, for $30, I could only get 400mb, and when I joined, I wasn't sure if I'd be using more than that - the excess charges are still ridiculous).
