Dash Express GPS Updates Traffic Models, Software Update Coming
Posted by Brian Lam at 11:29 AM on May 8, 2008
The Dash Express GPS just received its first historic traffic model update using the live Dash data gathered by users. That'll help predict traffic in areas where no Dash or other trusted data sources have been in the last 15 minutes. By end of month, a software update is coming with tweaks in performance, stability and routing. As for today's historic update, Dash recommends all users download the patch by Wi-Fi. Let's hope that more updates come often as this one, and with more features using that internet connection.

I like my Dash Express a lot, but the 3d map speed needs improvement. 2d is spot-on accurate, but 3d is always slightly behind my current location. Hopefully, this patch will fix that.
In the mean time, I'm content with the 2d mode.

I hope they enable trip tracking. They're current response is that they don't want to do it, for privacy reasons. I'd love to be able to do a Google Maps mashup for road trips and the like. Right now I'm downloading the Blackberry Tracker pythong API so I can try and track my phone.

Id rather use my GPS like a sextant, just help keep on course but not turn by turn. Otherwise its Fuc*ing GTA style and going with you gut feeling. It can be just as accurate in traffic as an algorithm in the real world.

Will people be able to keep switching their eyes between the road and the GPS that fast and often? I'm not sure if zig-zagging is necessarily a faster route...

@Stearns: Good lord. I have to agree there. It's completely taken over.
Of course in a few hours no one will have any idea what you're talking about. :)

Still waiting for dash to add all those missing features commonly found on other brands. Hopefully with the next update.
(As for the ads, I wouldn't know better. Sounds like my adblocker saved me from vomiting this morning)
