BTW, last time I installed my old copy of XP Pro I didn't have to call MS on the phone to get a special code to activate it.
I'd been required to do that in the past, as I've owned this copy for a while and it's been installed in a succession of machines.
Nothing major. I just thought it was cool.
I won't say "XP Forever".
I WILL say, "XP until something better comes along!"

Oh wait, no I wont.
Down with MS...if I have to pick an evil to back, I'm going with Uncle Steve over counsin Bill.

What comes after Vista? - I think I'll be ready for that by the time I'm done with SP3.

@strider_mt2k:
I'm in the same boat. XP is a fine OS but I'm ready for something new. Unfortunately Vista isn't ready for me and I doubt it will ever perform adequately - SP1 for Vista still sucks even on super high end hardware with tons of memory.
I don't mind buying really good hardware - I just don't want to slow it down with a crappy OS.
I doubt Mario Andretti said - give me the fastest car possible - now lets tow this mobile home behind it.

I wonder if I should go for it. I have XP Home SP 2 on my old PC.

Son of a bastard! And I just broke my home computer by trying to install SP3 RC2. Now I get some stop:0000139 bsod crap. Might as well have said Stop: Bill Gates has just stuck his penis in your ear. Hopefully I will be able to fix it tonight.

interesting...this morning Windows Automatic update automatically downloaded SP3 RC2 Refresh and installed it on my work PC. it's not supposed to do that is it?

can people using the release candidates confirm the performance gains? I love the idea of this thing keeping my aging computer running for another year.

@Gonzie: usually you have to remove a release candidate to install the final version.

The RC2 that I have been using has worked great and I've had no problems. I'll be looking forward to this final release.

been using rc2 since it came out, hard to quantify a 10% increase in performance though....
