WiMax Competitor LTE Runs Wii Online Multiplayer So Fast It Seems Local

WiMax isn't the only the live 4G game in town. Alcatel-Lucent is running an arguably much sexier demo of LTE (long-term evolution), the high-speed 4G network that Verizon and AT&T are going to deploy. Besides streaming video to a wall of TVs with over 100Mbps of throughput, they have two Wiis hooked up, one on Wi-Fi and one on LTE, battling each other in an online Mario Strikers Charged match. It's totally lag-free, as frenzied and butter smooth as Strikers gets. Full-fledged online gaming anywhere is so close it hurts.

WiMax isn't the only the

I would like to see both standards prosper. With the competition, one would hope to see stronger infrastructures and competitive pricing to ultimately benefit the consumers...

@thechansen: Yeah, thats what Nintendo Wifi Connection is for.
As for the whole LTE thing, this actually looks pretty cool. Cant wait to hear more about it.

Wii has online games?
Since WiMax seems to be so wonderfully equipped for success with Sprint at the helm, when can we expect to see LTE sending it to the scrap heap with Betamax, HD-DVD, DIVX players, etc.

Once they make a bundle pack for Wii with 2 Wii controllers with nunchucks and WiiSports for $199 I'll buy it. 250 just seems ridiculous when I can get a 360 for 30 bucks more.

Maybe I'll dust off my Wii when LTE actually does come out 3-4 years from now.

@thechansen: Well said and I agree. WiMAX is still vaporware. Sprint doesn't even have a deal in place for funding yet. The whole thing is a scam and is spearheaded by Intel. All WiMAX is is WI-FI, but long range. Its inherently different than LTE or even UWB.

Now if only Brazilians could get these connections so they don't lagg the eff out of my games all the time and scream "Tu MADRE!" all day when I complain that he's flying around the map.

@Mr_LaZy:
"Tu MADRE!" is in spanish, not portuguese the language spoken in Brazil.
The correct would be "Tua Mae!" and add "Otario!" at the end for some fun!

The only problem is that with Alcatel-Lucent at the helm, it will work great, but only for 2 customers at at time. It won't work very well at all for user number 3, and user number 4 will bring the whole thing down.

@bigMoneyMIKE: Umm... Sprint already has Wimax LAUNCHED in at least 4 cities. They have phones coming out for their new service. A sham? Maybe but if it actually works, it's going to PWN!
